Turn The Page - End of Year 2023

Posted on Wed Jan 17th, 2024 @ 12:47am by Commodore Tyler Malbrooke

Well here we are and we made it through, 2023 comes to close. Another year over and a new one begins. As always lets hope that the next one is better than the last. As I look back at the last year I see a world that is in turmoil. Between what is going on here in the US and elsewhere such as the Middle East. However, our stories and our community helps keep us all out of the darkness and looking toward a bright tomorrow. I see relationships born and reborn. Along with the rebirth comes births new little ones coming into the world in the past year, my own little Daks joined us in the world this past year. I credit this community to helping us get through these doldrums. Your creative stories have always kept my mind looking to a better tomorrow.

As the year comes to close we look at the great things that we have all accomplished. I was blessed to have a baby born. I know that one of our community started a new and great job. This year saw a return of some of our old friends while we continue to remain as close as we are. As for myself this year started out difficult and finishes with greatness. It is my greatest hope that 2024 is better than the last year. The we continue to grow and learn.

So that is enough of the misty eyed adoration. Suffice to say 2023 had its ups and its downs. But the Pioneer is always one of the ups...

So without any gilding the lily and no further ado I would like to present a few end of year/beginning of year awards.

Awards

Lieutenant Junior Grade Gage Tohoyia - Support Character of The Month - "For December 2023 Gage Tohoyia is awarded the Support Character of the Month. During December Gage contributed to getting the current mission underway and lent his character to getting a key part of the plot out in the open."

Lieutenant Commander Rowena McGowen - Character of The Month - "Even thought Rowena is a member of the Command Team here on the Pioneer she has taken center stage with the current mission. Not only is her character in the center of it all but behind the scenes she is making sure the plot runs smoothly and everyone has a part to play. For these reasons and more I award her the Character of the Month for December 2023."

Sergeant Major Lachlan Barr - Zefram Cochrane Medal of Exploration - "Lachlan has been with the Pioneer since the sim was created. It has been some ride the past six years. He has played a multitude of characters some of which are still in play. Not only are his posts descriptive and ropes the reader into them, but he is active behind the scenes assisting me in running this ship. I can say that the Pioneer would not be where it is today without his help. Simply put he embodies what this award stands for."

Lieutenant Vura - Whoopi Goldberg Diversity Ribbon - "Deltans are arguable one of the hardest races to portray in the Star Trek world. A people who have to be celibate seems like it is not that hard to play. However, when you are a Counselor it can make things a tad difficult. Over the last year Vura has shown us what it means to be a person who owns themselves. They have managed to write a post evaluating the psychology of just about the entire crew, all the while showing us what it means to be a member of a race that we know little about."

Lieutenant Commander Alyssa Maren - Outstanding Character Award - "For 2023 this award goes to Alyssa Maren. During the course of the year we have learned so much about this character. The Crooked River Story told volumes about what she can handle, and the act of turning a cargo bay into an hydroponics bay showed her want to better the ship despite everything. It gives the Command Team of the Pioneer great pride and joy in giving this award to Alyssa. Keep up the great work and I can't wait to see what you have in store for us in 2024."

Captain Edmund Merrick - Character of the Year - "2023 was a banner year for our beloved Marine XO. Not only have they earned Character of The Month (Jan), Second Officer's Award of Merit (Mar), Executive Officer's Award of Merit (Nov), but they have written 53 posts. Those achievements are nothing to shake a stick at. The character growth has been substantial both in their career and personal spheres. In the Marine Corps Merrick has stepped up and played integral roles in Marine missions as the Marine CO is busy being XO of the ship. In the personal sphere we have seen them branch out and explore romance. Behind the scenes the writer behind Merrick shows great initiative in pushing posts and plotlines. Making sure everyone is involved and having fun with the story. I have to add that this writer has not only been an integral part of this crew, but they have become inseparable from this community. Indeed I cannot imagine the Pioneer without them. I thank you for being a part of the Pioneer family and have great pride in presenting you this award."

I would like to add that I am proud of each and every one of you. Your writing and your friendship never ceases to amaze me. You all have taken a small idea that I had and turned it into this amazing world that we all get to run around in. We have even bridged the gap to other sims and expanded this playground of ours this past year. As Spock said "You have been, and always shall be, my friend."

Keep up the great work. Here is to an amazing year. Let's make 2024 even more amazing.

For Now
Steady As She Goes,
