Mission: The Ties That Bind - Empok Nor Episode 2
Location: Empok Nor Pylon 6
Timeline: MD007 0900 hrs

A solitary duffel sat at his feet as the transport came in for docking at Empok Nor. Lachlan had been on it several times before during his time on the Santa Monica. The older Cardassian design very much alike to DS9 with a few modifications to suit the needs of a more Federation, a more Starfleet way of living.

Deep Space 9 had a more Bajoran feel to it and that was not surprising given where it was, and what it had gone through. Therefore, as Empok Nor was all but a Starfleet installation now it made sense to fit it to suit the needs of them as opposed to others… even if they did strangely keep the traditional name.

“Name?” asked the transport crew.

“Barr, Lachlan.” Lachlan said broadly in his Scottish accent.

“Sorry sir? What did you say? Can you spell that?” the man asked.

Lachlan sighed. His name was easy to say, easy to understand but sometimes his accent made things difficult for those with an untrained ear. “B-A-R-R… like a metal bar I’m going to hit you with if you do not spell my name right… first name L-A-C-H-L-A-N… I have no way of helping you with that.”

“Ah, got you Master Sergeant. You are awaiting the arrival of the USS Pioneer?” he asked.

“Aye, that’s correct. Do you have an ETA?” Lachlan asked.

“Afraid not Sergeant. I know they are en route, possibly a day or two barring no ion storms. Been a real upsurge lately.” He said as he ticked things off on his PADD. “There are a number of transfers here waiting on the Pioneer as well. Maybe you should head to The White Stag, or promenade. No doubt you’ll find something there.”

“I’m sure I will Crewman, thank you.” Lachlan said as he moved past the man.

Setting foot outside of the transport he was hit by the smells of the promenade’s restaurants and food stalls. Different species milled amongst each other, sounds of different languages filled the vast space.

Lachlan had been given temporary quarters and had beamed his bag there, quite frankly he couldn’t be bothered carrying around whilst he made his way through what seemed like seas of people.

He entered The White Stag, ordered some food and a beer and took out his PADD so read. The Eternals Project was beginning on the Pioneer and throughout Zodiac Fleet much to his joy. On the Pioneer he’d have a dual role as Chief of the Boat, usually a Fleet position, and First Sergeant of The Cure. The ideal role to try and bridge the gap between not only officer and enlisted but marine and fleet alike.

Other changes had been made in the same vein. His Commanding Officer, of The Cure, now Major Tremble was not only running the marine detachment on the ship but was now its First Officer and another vital step in integration.

Lachlan had also heard that there had been a promotion of their Marine CO, Lt. Colonel Patton to First Officer as well.

General Mercer wanted this to work and so far, it seems moves had been made to positive effect. Lachlan smirked. It was nice to see a vision beginning, even if the hard work was still to come.
