The time was waning on Tyler's 37th birthday. It was by far the best one yet, in his mind. His life was finally getting onto the track that he wanted. He had his own command, not just any command but an Intrepid Class he had dreamed of this since he was little and his mother worked for Admiral Paris.

His thoughts drifted to his mother as he walked the halls of his ship, the thought of that was still funny to him. "Mom look this is all mine." He said to no one in particular. The corridors of the Pioneer were dimmed as they were in work light mode. "I did it mom, I made it... I have my own ship and my own crew and there is nothing anyone can do to take that away from me now."

His thoughts drifted, as he did through the ship. He remembered something his mother once told him. "If you are to command a starship, you must do it fairly and as a team. Never simply expect people to do things that you wouldn't do. But most of all treat the crew and the ship as your family and they will go to the end of the galaxy and back again for you. She often told him advice like that, she said that she got it from years of listening to Captains and Admirals complain. Tyler chuckled at the thought of what his mother said.

The ship was only one of three things that he had gotten in the past twenty four hours that set his life on track. The second was his wife, for eleven long years they had lived as husband and wife. But they were separated as was the nature of life in the fleet.

But now, now she was here. His precious Katherine, his Kat was now the Assistant Chief Engineer of a major space station. That was a huge notch in her belt as well. With her on the station and him on the ship they would have a lot more time together. Perhaps even little ones... Lord he loved that woman ever since he laid eyes on her back at the Academy.

Now she was here... He hugged her... He kissed her and he was still in shock.

Tyler found himself on Deck 3 in front of his quarters. The plaque on the door said "LTCMDR Tyler Malbrooke Commanding Officer" His fingers traced the words as if he was in a trance like state. He walked into his quarters and without even turning on the lights grabbed his PADD. He had been planning for this command since he heard that he had to report to Captain Vela, he figured he was getting a ship. But he never expected... this... this work of art...

The final piece in this perfect puzzle was his friends. Tyler had his friends. Santi Vela was his Commanding Officer, and Trish the woman who taught him anatomy at the academy, and helped him land his bride, was his XO. With those two people at either side of him Tyler truly felt that nothing could stand in his way.

Tyler stepped into the turbolift "Deck 1" he ordered and the turbolift whirred to life. This was it the moment that he had been waiting for, the one that he knew would be the beginning of the rest of his life. But there was one small voice in the back of his head that kept saying this was all a dream and that he would be awake soon. If it was a dream Tyler hoped that he never woke from it.

The turbolift doors swished open and the bridge was dark, no lights, no sounds, not single computer terminal was showing anything. The bridge was in lock out mode. "Computer lights..." nothing happened. Tyler thought for a moment. He walked to the center of the bridge "Computer, by order of Starfleet Command, I Tyler Malbrooke am hererby ordered to take command of the USS Pioneer NCC - 74757 as of stardate 71362.08. Transfer all command codes to Tyler Malbrooke and transfer all command functions to the bridge." He said in an unsteady voice that began to get stronger as he went.

The computer chimed in response. "Acknowledged, USS Pioneer now under the command of Lieutenant Commander Tyler Malbrooke." The soft and welcoming voice of the computer responded. The lights came on and the consoles came to life all over the bridge.

Tyler walked to every station on the bridge and touched the consoles. He knew he was home, yet he was still trying to gauge if this was real or if he was still sleeping in his quarters aboard the Poseidon. He looked at the CONN and saw the menu where his flight controller would select course and speed. Checked the Engineering console and saw, what would be a damage report screen if the ship was damaged. He hoped that he would rarely have to call on his Engineer for that report. Then to Tactical where he saw a complete listing of all of the ship's weapons and armaments. The Operations console where he saw the actual heartbeat of his ship. He saw the warp core humming and a menu requesting where power should be directed. The Science station rounded out the circular bridge. There Tyler saw the listing of the compliment of probes at his disposal, as well as that all of the ship's sensors were standing by.

Finally he turned to the center chair and sat down, he looked to his left at the empty chair. The chair where one of his closest friends was going to sit. A huge smile made its way across his face and he knew, Tyler Malbrooke knew that he was not dreaming. That this was his life now and life was good.

"Computer dim lights by fifty percent...." He thought for a moment as he began to review the arrival dates of his crew.

"I have the Bridge, and I am home..." he said.
