Last Time On These Are The Voyages

He looked up at the screen and his eyes bugged out. There was the image of the ship that he knew to be the USS Enterprise NCC-1701-D, but what he did not know was why it was there. His eyes squinted as the words "Space the final frontier" was spoken by the voice he knew to be Jean Luc Picard.
And Now The Continuation...

Tyler had been sitting in front of what he knew to be a television set for the past four hours. He had watched four individual programs that showed him missions that he knew the Enterprise completed, they even had Cardassians, and the Borg.

"It is being presented as fiction, but I know that all of this happened. This is unreal." He said to the empty room. Tyler's wife Katherine was getting ready to take on the day, and as such was in the kitchen. "What's that hun?" she replied as she heard Tyler speak. He walked into the kitchen "Can you believe that they are presenting these mission logs as fictional stories for entertainment. It is unreal, they even got the likenesses correct. It is blowing my mind." He smiled as he rubbed his eyes and poured himself some coffee.

Katherine had been sipping her coffee as she listened to her husband. A sip that she practically spit out all over the counter. "What are you talking about? Star Trek? That show has been around since 1966, it is not a mission log, or even close to being real. I'll give you that life is imitating art and some of the gadgets that we have were designed after Star Trek. You don't think that those are real people. Do you?" When she asked the last question the look of concern on her face was undeniable. She was worried that her beloved was losing his mind.

Tyler squinted at her, it was something he did when he was unsure about things, and she knew it. "But I read the..." His voice trailed off as he thought to take a different tack. "Of course not I was just pulling your leg. Perhaps you are right, I am watching too much Star Trek." He smiled as he made the Vulcan salute "Live long and prosper and all that jazz. Listen you go to work and I will take care of the chores." He kissed his wife passionately, "What was that for?" she said when she caught her breath. "Just because..." was the only reply he could come up with. "You better have dinner on the table when I get home." Kat said with a devilish smile as she walked out the door.

Tyler raised an eyebrow "I doubt that honey... I need to figure out where, when and why I am... Then get home. Sorry babe dinner will have to wait." He spoke to the empty room as he stared at the door that she just went through.

The last thing that Makeba Brown remembered was sitting on the bunk in her cell, as she held on for dear life. The Pioneer was getting tossed about and the field that kept her inside had flickered a number of times. She tried in vain to get someone to tell her what was going on. She offered to help, from her perspective if the ship blew up she went with it, and fat chance if she would allow that. Suddenly, the whole ship rolled as it was slammed by some force. Makeba Brown was thrown head over toe and her head slammed into the bulkhead. The world went dark... Until now...

Sounds started flooding back into her consciousness. There were people talking softly, and the sound of papers being ruffled. Makeba's eyes fluttered open and she found her head resting on a desk in an office. She knew that she had been asleep, and now her instinct was to feign sleep until she found out as much as she could. A male voice with a British accent spoke "Long night Doctor?"

Whelp, there goes that idea she thought. She lifted her head to face the man and noticed his name tag. "Uhhh ummm yeah..." she said as she looked at herself for the first time. She sat at a desk in a lab coat and her ID showed that she was Dr Makeba Brown, Behavioral Therapist. I have to play along and try not to sound too out of place. She thought. "Dr Frain aren't you a sight for sore eyes. I thought this shift would never end." He laughed heartily "I hate to be the bearer of bad news but I came down here because I need to talk to you about a case that we may be getting."

Well Shit... Now I have to play doctor. Here goes nothing She thought. "Your office or mine?" She said with a flirtatious lilt in her voice. "Yours would do nicely." Dr Frain replied as he motioned toward the door that bared her name.

The first order of business for Tyler was to figure out what exactly caused this shift in the timeline. He had to do this without breaking the temporal prime directive, which should be easy due to the fact that everyone thought that starships and the Federation was fiction. He decided that he had to venture out, but first a shower.

Tyler planned the day meticulously. He turned on the TV so he could listen to it while showering. While he was drying off a chill ran up his spine, and he blanched pale as he heard the distinct voice of Katheryn Janeway issuing orders. "Apparently, Voyager is fiction too. Which stands to reason if all of the Federation is fiction. But this is too eerie, they match perfectly." He spoke as he dressed and then a thought occurred to him.

Tyler sat in front of the computer and after about ten minutes where he figured out how to use the damn thing, he searched for the USS Pioneer and the United Federation of Planets. He got no results for the Pioneer. "Well it seems that the only fiction centers on the Enterprise through history, Voyager, and Deep Space Nine. But why not the rest of the fleet, why just them." He looked around the room and saw all of the mementos of a life that he and Kat were creating. The thoughts that he could get used to this, farm life, little cares, perhaps raise a family had crossed his mind. "Do I really need to go back?" The minute the words left his lips he knew that yes he did.

The first order of business was to see what happened to cause the split in the timeline. To achieve this Tyler went to the Library to do some research. He began by looking through the news of the time. The year was 2018 and according to his timeline the Eugenics War would have been over, and World War III would be in full swing. It was immediately apparent that there was no World War occurring. He sat for about four hours but to no avail. It seemed that the Augments were never created and therefore the Eugenics War never happened.

Tyler approached the librarian "Excuse me, are there any books on the Eugenics War?" The librarian was an aged lady who looked up from her reading glasses, "I am sorry son, the what?"

"The Eugenics War... When the Augments tried to take over the world. They were led by a man named Khan Noonien Singh." Tyler replied a little louder than he should have. After checking the online catalog the librarian looks at Tyler a little strange. "Are speaking of Star Trek? it seems the only information I have on a Eugenics War or Augments comes from the Star Trek TV series." Her soft voice spoke, but it wavered a little as Tyler was looking at her wildly. The more the librarian spoke, the more Tyler began to look around wildly and sweat profusely.

"No dammit, I am talking about the war that sparked World War Three. There has to be something, it is real I tell you, real..." Tyler shouted and reached across the desk for the librarian's keyboard. "There has to be something there..."

"SIR... STEP-BACK... SIR" The old woman shouted back. A uniformed police officer came running over. "Sir, if you do not calm down I am going to have to ask you to leave." Tyler had snapped, perhaps it was the time change. Perhaps it was the lack of sleep. But he turned on his heel and punched the officer in the jaw. The man took two stumbling steps back and then quickly recouped from the punch. He lunged for Tyler's legs and took them out, Tyler came crashing to the ground.

"Now, you are being placed under arrest sir. The charge is assaulting an officer in the line of duty." Captain Tyler Malbrooke commanding officer of the USS Pioneer was arrested and charged with multiple counts of assaulting an officer. It seems that while they were attempting to book him Tyler screamed about being a Captain and punched a few police officers.

He was arraigned and at his arraignment he kept babbling. However, he had a judge that took pity on him. Instead of holding him for contempt the judge ordered a psychiatric evaluation. This was ordered on the grounds that Tyler seemed to be suffering from a fantasy psychosis, that is due to his assertion that Star Trek is real.

Thus the man who has stared across sectors of space at many an enemy found himself babbling in the back of van, as it made it's way to the Oklahoma Hospital for the Criminally Insane in Tulsa Ok.

Makeba Brown and Dr Ian Frain sat at the meeting table. "Well it seems that the courts over in Pawhuska have sent us a live one. A man is claiming that Star Trek is real and he is the Captain of a starship." He said laughing as he set his coffee down and sat.

Makeba had no idea what Star Trek was, but she knew how to play along. Maquis training don't fail me now... She thought. She joined in the laughter "Well this one has got to be out of his bloody mind. What did he do?"

"It seems that he punched a load of police officers, and ranted at his own arraignment." Dr Frain said as he slid the file across the table to Makeba.

Makeba Brown had rarely been surprised in her entire life. But her jaw dropped as she looked at the folder in front her. There written in block lettering was TYLER MALBROOKE
