Mission: Episode 7 - Home Again
Location: Deck Nine, Marine Barracks
Timeline: MD005 1100 hrs

Aiden was still finding his feet, after all, he had just graduated from the Marine Corps and was still green, the Pioneer his first posting. The past several days he had spent keeping in shape, and generally settling in, as he understood it, the ship was on rest and relaxation for the time been and was en route to a station called Empok Nor, a place he had never been and was looking forward to exploring...or finding all the bars at least.

But for the moment, he was going to check in with His Team Leader and then hopefully meet Corporal Fry who formed what was Rifle Fire Team One. Aiden thought it was important to get to know the unit, bond with them, after all, they were the ones who were willing to lay down their lives to ensure the safety of others. A noble goal and something that was also popular with the ladies, a man in uniform and especially more appealing when it's a marine uniform.

Aiden was approaching the Marine Barracks on deck nine, it seemed everything happened here, security, the brig, armoury, SCIF, and even the Captain's Yacht were all based on Deck nine, so there were always a lot of people around. He smiled as he passed several crew members on his way, and a few female heads turned as he marched past. It didn't take him long to reach his destination, but then he realised one thing, he didn't know what Staff Sergeant Flarn looked like, he had failed to look up his record or even ask anyone about him, so this was certainly going to be an interesting, interaction.

Flarn was happy to be back in action, well as happy as a Tellarite could get. He was working hard as he got back from the forced medical leave. It was time to get his team together and ready for action. If the reports were right the Marines would be getting more and more use in the near future. He summoned his team to the Snake Pit. It was Training Day. Flarn saw as the first member of his team arrived. The young Private would not know what hit him. "Welcome Private! Do we function on our own time, or on Marine time?" Flarn growled.

Gus emerged from the Vault, wiping his hands on a cleaning rag and caught sight of Flarn and that FNG. Stopping he saluted the Sgt., glanced toward ~Evon, wasn't it?~ he considered and decided to remain silent while Evon answered the Sgt.

Aiden bolted up straight and puffed out his chest "Sir Private Aiden Pearce, reporting as ordered, and Marine time, Sir." he hesitantly shouted, pondering for a moment if he was actually late because he thought he was early for once in his career.

Flarn knew that the Private had been a little early. However, decorum needed to be maintained. "That is gorram perfect private. It is so right that I think I may just have to rip these stripes off my collar and give them to you. Now is the beginning of the end of your life. Is that understood? What is your gorram billet?"

Gus sat on a table and put one booted foot up on the seat. "He's in our Team, Sergeant? He's almost too pretty to be a Marine, isn't he?"

The Tellarite growled. "I was talking to the Private or do the two of you share a brain. Don't you think I know who is on my gorram team. The question is what is his malfunction in the suck. Speaking of malfunctions you must have one in your brain. You come to attention when speaking to a superior, is that understood. I was roaming the stars kicking the teeth out of Jem Hadaar before either of you were a twinkle in yer daddy's eye."

Aiden glanced over at Gus and chuckled, he couldn't help it as a small smile crept across his face, which soon disappeared when the Tellarite glanced back at him, puffing his chest out some more his face returned to a blank expression "Sir, yes sir, this is the beginning of the end of my life, I serve to please."

"Now if I am correct you are the maggot who is going to patch us up and send us back into the suck. Just so we can fight longer and die slower. AM I RIGHT!" Flarn growled he was building to a point. One that would be proven shortly.

"Sir, if you can keep fighting, I can keep it attached. It's amazing what I can do with some sutures and a couple of plasters. Dead on your feet, not a problem, I'll prop you up until you take your last breath." Pearce responded.

Flarn snorted derisively. "Wrong answer Private. Your job is to destroy the enemy. Welcome to the Cure." Flarn visibly relaxed for the moment as he took as seat at the conference table. Once the recruit was settled he already knew the first duty he would assign him. It was not a choice assignment.

Aiden nearly jumped out of his skin, the Tellarite actually scared him "Destroy the enemy, yes Sir." he said still standing at attention, after all, he hadn't been ordered or offered to sit, he stood rigid, eyes forward.

Gus came to attention, caught the new guy's eye out of the corner of his and resisted the urge to sigh. Flarn had a hair up his arse, again. It was going to be a long day.

Flarn breathed out heavily through his snout. "Well since we are assigned to a ship there is not much day to day use for us. As such we train and are loaned out to other departments as needed. You of course will be sent out to Sick Bay from time to time. There is also babysitting duty..." His voice trailed off and he visibly shuttered when he said babysitting. "We are required to guard the SCIF and that is a fate worse than death. Speaking of special duties Fry how was that mission with the Intels?" Flarn had calmed down as he sat, he was done busting the new guy's hump at least for the time being.

Fry relaxed slowly, then shrugged. "SSDD, Sergeant. They don't tell you anything going in...even less when you get there and the Warrant Officer seemed to be letting that arms dealer run the show. I suppose that's why I'm a Marine grunt. I couldn't do that sort of thing. In the end, it was a lot of bluster and talk.

"Do not fret Marine you did your job. The mission is accomplished and everyone is home safe. It is my understanding that your job was to make sure the fleet made it home. So Ohh Rah Marine." Flarn replied with derisive snort.

Aiden stood there taking it all in, the conversation unfolding before him, made him think what the hell had he let himself in for, 'Join medical school, become a doctor' his mother's voice echoed in his mind, but no, he had to go and join the Marines instead, at least he would get the odd shift in sickbay which should make up for the babysitting duties, something which he felt he would be doing often.

Flarn could read the look on Aiden's face like most people read books. It was the same face that every Marine got when they learned what shipboard duty was like. Fact was it was not too unlike duty at a Barracks. You trained, you went on missions. You trained, you had daily duties etc... "Come, Pearce is it? At ease have a seat. Tell us why you joined up. What do you think this life was going to be like?"

Gus slid into a seat, tapped the replicator repeater, requesting a mug of hot cha and slouched. It seemed carbon monoxide college was in session.

"Thank you, sir," he said, slipping into a more comfortable position and finally taking a seat. "Well, my parents wanted me to become a doctor..." he paused for a moment, he did not want to overshare with his new colleagues "I had different ideas, and after a few drinks, I vaguely recall losing a bet and then the next thing me a few friends were signing up to become Marines," he said, half smiling, remembering that night. "My medical knowledge helped and well, here I am," he said, sitting back and crossing his leg.

Flarn snorted it was a typical story, one that he had heard numerous times, and one that he did not respect. "So it seems that you joined on a lark. Has your mind about the corps changed? You realize that we are not here for fun and games."

Aiden pondered for a moment, he wanted to be honest with his team, they had to function and trust each other. "I may have joined on a whim, but you will always get my best, as long as it doesn't spoil my boyish good looks," he said smiling and chucking while finally relaxing a little.

Ever the indignant Tellarite all Flarn could do was snort in response to Aiden's comment.

Taking a drink from his mug, Gus eyed Evan...no, Aiden? Yeah, it was Aiden. "It's always fun until someone loses an eye," he half-joked, looking at Flarn with mock seriousness. "He could work a synthetic eye in with those looks, or just wear a patch. That could take some of that pretty off. What do you think, Sergeant?"

For the first time since this impromptu meeting started Flarn actually smiled. "You know Fry I think a nice set of tusks would do the trick. You know there is a surgeon on this ship who worked with Marines in the past. I think she can be persuaded to give him some tusks."

Aiden laughed, "Oh I might look good in tusks, the women might love it." he replied again chuckling and settling in to get to know his new team, he felt welcomed and of course Marines had banter, he leaned forward to tell them about an embarrassing situation while at boot camp.
