Mission: Episode 10 - New Home, Same Pioneers
Location: XO's Quarters
Timeline: MD003 1700 hrs

Enya dropped down on the couch next to her Dad and sighed. She could hear her mother in the kitchen moving around and though she could volunteer to help, she knew it was better to stay out of the way.

“What’s this dinner for Dad?” She asked, looking at her father. They didn’t have company all that often and her mother was going all out. “Are they leaving the Pioneer or something?”

"I have no idea, little one." Quinn said, with a big grin. "And I am not asking Momma either, you know how she gets if you get in her way." Quinn said, with a warm smile on his face.

“Do I have to stay out here?” Enya asked him. “It’s gojng to be boring!”

"What do you mean out here?" Quinn asked, wondering what she was referencing. Did Ameri give her special orders, that he was not aware of?

“I mean that once dinner is over can I just go to my room!” Enya said, her eyes pleading. “Mom hasn’t said a word and I am not asking her while she is busy is the kitchen.”

"What would you like to do, Enya?" Quinn asked, wondering where she was going with this conversation. He was not really understanding, what she wanted? Did she want to go to her room? Was this a cry, to go out and do something?

Enya sighed. “I want to eat dinner with the four of you and then be able to go to my room for the night, watch a movie or listen to music.”

"With the Captain and his wife?" Quinn asked, a little surprised. He had to assume she was talking about Kat and Tyler. They had dinners together, quiet a bit as of late. Most of the time, she hid in her room. While these dinners went on.

Quinn understood her frustrations. That had to be hard, to be in your room bored, while the grownups were talking it up and having fun. He mainly did that to spare her from listeing to a bunch of old people talk.

“No,” Enya shook her head. “When they come it’s cool because they are like my uncle and aunt. Mom said it’s Jayden and Clarissa coming. I don’t know them!”

"That's the whole point." Quinn said, with a big grin. "This dinner is our way of fixing that." He said, with a big grin on his face.

“Why would they want to know me? Enya frowned. “I am a kid, not their boss or anything.”

"Because you are a member of this crew. You are not going to make friends, hiding in your room." Quinn pointed out to her.

Enya looked at her Dad and realized that she didn’t have ally in him. “Friends? With some people twice my age!”

"It's a relative term. I am working on the Captain, trying to get more famalies aboard the Pioneer. These things take time Enya." Quinn suggested to his daughter.

“I am glad,” Enya said with a smile. She sat back and closed her eyes, sighing. “Fine , I’ll suffer through this dinner with them but you are going to owe me, Dad and I plan to collect!”

"Owe you? Sure, what ever you say. We will owe you one maybe two groundations for you. What do you say, you want two or three weeks of groundation?" Quinn teased. "Were the parents, try not to forget that little one."

Enya’s eyes widened. “How is it fair I get grounded for going to a stupid dinner and having to listen to you all talk!” She saw the teasing in his eyes. “Dad!” She picked up the pillow off the couch and hit him with it laughing. “You scared me!”

"Good, you deserve it. I do not owe you. You were told the choice, when you agreed to come aboard the USS Pioneer, was." Quinn started to say. He stated that in a calm and collected voice. Then he went on. "I am working on old grumpy, will get kids aboard the Pioneer, before to long." Quinn suggested to her, with a wink, and a softer and friendlier tone.

“Tell me again who these people are?” Enya sighed, knowing she wasn’t going to win. “Are they old?” She hoped not.

"Depends what you mean by old? One of them works in your Mom's department, the other one is the Assistant Chief Engineer of the Pioneer." Quin pointed out to Enya.

“Oh,” Enya’s eyes lit up. “They are old then, not old old like you and Mom!”

"We are not the old, right Momma?" Quinn asked, hoping that Ameri would back him up.

“We are young,” Ameri replied. “Younger than most everyone on this ship.” She grinned at Enya’s look. “Our hearts will always be young and that means we will never be old.”

Quinn shook his head no, he knew that meant they are old. And Enya was going to call them out on it. "You are the only child on the ship, we all be old in comparison to you." Quinn told her.

Enya grinned at him. “Which means you are all old!” She waited for him to reply.

"Don't tell Momma that." Quinn said, with a big grin on his face. "She is in denial." Quinn suggested to Enya.

“That comes with old age,” Enya grinned at him. “Good thing you Haven’t got it...yet.”

Quinn kept his mouth shut. He was pretty sure, that Ameri would say something about that.

“You want to see old age,” Ameri called out. “How about you get some extra chores around here and maybe no movies for a while!”

“You look really young, Mom!”
Enya called out with a smile. “Doesn’t she Dad?”

"Leave me out of this, you dug your own hole." Quinn said, with a big grin on his face.

Ameri smiled at them both. “The good news is since I am so ‘old’ we know who will be cleaning up tonight!”

“Dad!” Enya looked at him. “Please help me out here! I am in school, I have homework to do! You don’t want me to do bad do you?”

"You are hung, you can make time for the dishes and your school work." Quinn said, with a big grin on his face.

Enya sighed dramatically. “Okay but if I get a bad grade because I am exhausted it will be on you and Mom!”

"No, it will be on you. Enya, every member of the crew is expected to carry their own weight. Now you get to learn that lesson as well." Quinn pointed out to her, with a monotone level voice to him.

Enya stared at him and then her mother. She shook her head. “Fine.” She didn’t feel like a part of the crew, just a kid stuck with homework and chores.

Ameri looked at Enya then Quinn. “I am glad you see things our way.

"We all have our part to play." Quinn suggested to Enya. "You will get use to it. All of us old guys do." He said with a big grin on his face.

“There is no use in this,” Enya sighed. “This is your job not mine, I’m a kid!”

"We all have a job on the pioneer, even the cute as a button daughter of the first officer." Quinn suggested in a patronizing voice.

“And what is my position and rank,” Enya looked at him. “What is my rank and who are my minions!”

"Cadet Enya O'Flannagian. Resident student." Quinn pointed out to her.

“And what does that entail,” Enya asked, keeping her face serious, waiting his reply.

"Going to school, getting your education. And becoming a Starfleet Officer someday, like your young hip parents." Quinn said, with a big smile on his face. He had a feeling that Enya would not see it that way.

“Well then,” Enya smiled. “Thank you!” She hugged him, giving it her best shot. “Dishes are not in there so I will retreat to my school work.” She knew it wasn’t going to work but she had to try. She got her sneakiness from him after all.

"Not so fast, you have not heard from Mom. I may be second in command the ship, but she commands the family." Quinn said, with a wink towards Ameri.

“Your father forgot to mention household chores,” Ameri said with a smile. “We all have them, yours are assigned on a daily basis by your Dad and I.”

Enya rolled her eyes. “I knew you would gang up on me!” She sighed. “I’ll do the dishes after we eat and then head off to my room to do homework.” They had just gotten her out of boring conversation, her goal all along.

"Thats why we are the best team. Ganging up on our daughter, is why we come home everynight." Quinn said sarcastically joking, he kept that cheesy big grin. He did not forget, he decided he would let Ameri tell her.

“I’m glad you are so excited about homework,”’Ameri smiled. “But it will wait until either after they leave or morning.”

“Entertaining guests isn’t in the job description!” Enya protested.

Ameri looked over at Quinn. It was his turn again.

"Sure it is, the role of a department head, first officer and their lovely daughter." Quinn said in a teasing manner.

“I should get some compensation out of this,”‘Enya replied. “Like an extra serving of ice cream or some time off for good behavior.”

"Your not in the brig, there is no such thing as time off for good behavior." Quinn pointed out to her.

“When is my time off then,” Enya asked. “You Guys have lovey dovey nights and date nights. When can I just do what I want!” She almost laughed at her mother’s expression to her reference to their wanting to be alone in their room sometimes.

"When you turn 18 and move out of the house, works for me." Quinn suggested to Enya.

“I would rather just have saturdays off,” Enya countered. “Where I don’t have stuff to do!”

"Talk to your department, in this case that would be Mom." Quinn suggested with a twisted grin on his face.

Ameri raised an eyebrow, looking at Quinn. “No complaining the other six or it is canceled.”
Enya looked at her Mom. “Deal. The whole day no chores or school.”

“Yes,” Ameri smiled. It would be there day to eat out from now on. “Quinn?”

"A day to eat out?" Quinn said, looking at Enya. "You know no noe can cook as good as your Momma." Quinn suggested to Enya.

“Saturday can be Dads day to do the dishes,” Enya suggested. “I have them the rest of the week.” She smiled sweetly at him.

"There are no dishes, its a replicator not a dishwasher." Suggested to Enya. He wondered, what she was really going on about.

“Picking up after Mom cooks is still work,” Enya smiled. “Trust me in this.”

"It all goes in the replicator." Quinn said, thinking to himself, that is not work.

“Okay then it’s a deal,” Enya smiled. “Saturdays I can just be free to do what I want!”

“With limitations,” Ameri spoke up. “You still have rules.”

"Sure, I anticipated this move, hence why I had my Chief Operations Officer, create a new parental level on our holodecks." Quinn said, as he looked over to Enya. To see her reaction.

“Parental level...” Enya blinked, her eyes filled with interest. “What is the parental level for and like?”

"It's self explanatory." Quinn, not looking to get baited into that loaded question.

“I do,” Enya admitted with a grin. She should have known he wouldn’t fall for that. “So when can I use it!”

"I have no objections to now, unless Mom does." Quinn said, as he already had reserved the holodeck for her.

“I don’t,” Ameri smiled. “Just be back with time to get ready for our guests.” She was happy at the excitement on Enya’s face.
