| General Overview | When Emiko does something, she throws her entire self at the thing. She is dedicated and driven to achieve her goals. However, the one thing that she has never been able to achieve was the acknowledgment and appreciation of her father. Since she could not achieve it at home, she resolved to not come back until he acknowledged her, which meant enlisting. However, because she’s so desperate for her father’s approval, she often ends up in very bad relationships and tries to make them work regardless of the cost. She also self-sabotages relationships due to her general lack of trust in partners and need for constant assurances/approval. Languages come very easily to her and she is a polyglot. Having been raised with Japanese and English, she was able to see a wide variety in languages. When she enlisted in Starfleet, she had mastered English, French, German, Hebrew, Russian, Spanish, Klingon, Andorian, and Ferengi. |

| Personal History | Emiko was born on October 31, 2376 to Noah and Mayumi Marley. While both were pleased to have their first born child, Noah was disappointed to not have had a son. Emiko was given her name as was the tradition in her mother’s family to name a female child with a Japanese name. However, she got her British father’s surname. Noah was a good father and provided for all of Emiko’s material needs. However, once Arthur was born, Noah fawned over the boy, leaving Emiko trying to get some attention from her father, without great success. As a result, she became closer with her mother and tried to shine a light as brightly on herself as possible to get some positive attention from her father. Emiko was a straight A student in school and was especially gifted in languages. However, when that did not succeed in getting Noah’s attention, in her teenage years, she rebelled and her grades dropped. With those drops in grades went any hope of getting into Starfleet Academy. It also only got her brief negative attention. Not feeling desired at home, Emiko ran away and enlisted, hoping a better future was out there somewhere. After basic training, and being put through A school, Starfleet realized that they had something special in Emiko. With her gift for languages, an intelligence specialization in communications was carved out for her. While the science of wiretapping and cryptography was not an issue for her, the engineering aspects could sometimes be trying for her and she would spend extra hours just trying to make electronics do as she wanted. |
