Mission: Episode 1 - Pioneering Spirit
Location: San Francisco Hospital, Earth
Timeline: MD000 Pre USS Pioneer - 2393

Touching her fingers against her partner's, Patricia gave the man a small smile before allowing her body to fold into a low curtsy. "I hope that you know what you are letting yourself in for...."

As the man smiled at the woman's words, he pulled the woman's body to his before placing his hand against her waist, "Let me be the judge of that darlin'..."

Patricia felt a light blush alight acoss her cheeks before the material of her dress brushed against her legs as the motion of her body swung. She felt her partner's hand tighten in her own as an almost reassurance before the first notes of music begun to surround them both.

Patricia couldn't help the flash of anger as she noted the slow pace...she knew he had done it on purpose despite promising this time around would be different. Before she could put voice to her thoughts, instead the woman's body was maneuvered back and before she could stop her feet adjusted to the steps.

She knew that he knew...the storm on her face would have shown anyone in the far reaches of their room that she was angry.

Patricia knew she hadn't a choice...instead all she could do was prove him wrong...she was well capable of this and more.

Easily her body relaxed and her feet eased into the step one, two, three...one, two , three It was all second nature...the vague pressure he placed on her hip as both hands manipulated the woman to move the way he wanted....It was an old time step...the man always led the woman and it was a way unchallenged even when society around progressed beyond the male being the dominant sex in society. It was familiar...easy in Patricia's mind.

She could tell he was testing, the quick change in direction...the move from forward direction to backwards once again. Those small spins that required an intricate placement of her own feet.

Patricia allowed her eyes to close...she didn't want to look at his right now...her anger may have faded but it didn't mean that she was anymore happy with his decision.

The music flowed across her body as it always had. A waltz, a Charleston...even when she let her hair down and let out a side so rarely seen...it was all just that, second nature. She had grown up on the feet of her father, the joy of hearing his laughter as he danced her in the same step she performed now as their mother echoed the laugh from a chair in the corner.

When Declan was only six hadn't she done the same with him...taking his tiny hands in her own as she encouraged his feet to step up on hers. To their song they danced around the room as she showed him how to take the lead. Patricia laughed softly as the memory reminded her of the womaniser he had become...blinding the women with his moves when he hit a dance floor.

It was during this laugh that her dance partner suddenly increased his step, causing her to stumble slightly as she tried to find her place once again. "Hey!" Again the anger was painted on her face as she looked from the floor to his eyes, "Don't..." The single word was a warning...she knew what he was trying to do and she'd be damned if she let it happen again.

"Focus Patricia...you loose that focus you know what happens..." The man's voice still held a twinkle that echoed in his eyes as he pulled the woman in just a little closer. "You know you're not ready..."

Patrica felt the temper bubble and boil even as her feet continued their glide across the dance floor. "To hell I'm not...."

His laughter followed as her dance partner dropped his hand away from the ladies waist before encouraging her into a slide beneath their raised hands before easly drawn her in against him once more.

"You're pushing yourself too hard and too fast...you still need more time."

Patricia felt her footwork threaten to slip again as her hand in his tightened in reaction and her face reddened this time from rage. "You don't know me...You don't know what I am capable of..."

"But darlin'...noone knows it better than me." As laughter touched his voice, the man picked up the pace of the dance as her pushed her to quicken her footwork in order to be able to keep up. "You've always pushed when you shouldn't have...even when you've had all the time in the universe; still you push as if you have something to prove when the truth is...you've nothing to prove to anyone but yourself."

Patricia tried to snatch her hand away but found it held steadfast as she was forced to follow his footwork once more. "

"You started this so you have to finish..." The man pulled her even closer until their bodies touched, "You've never been a quitter...remember."

It took everything she had not to slap the man across his face. Her feet were moved at speed now as their bodies continued their dance around the floor. Barely able to see the walls as he encouraged her body to move with his circular steps, Patricia knew he was right...she had to finish this.

It was on that last and final thought, as Patricia moved into step three that suddenly her left leg gave; her body threatening to fall to the ground except for the arms that held her in place. The hand holding hers easily moved to the woman's waist allowing both arms to encompass her waist.

"No!!!" The word was a scream as Patricia fought against the man holding her, knowing that in truth if he let go she would just end up on the floor.

Her fists pounded against his chest as the tears welled up in her eyes, this wasn't meant to happen. All was meant to have been fine again.

"Darlin stop...Trisha stop!" The voice held a commanding tone as the man held her stead fast; refusing to allow her punches to cause an effect.

As the moments passed, Patricia let the fight leave her body before she just went limb in his arms; refusing to look up and show the defeat in her face. "I just want...I didn't want this..."

The man removed one arm, as his fingers touched a stray strand of hair against her cheek and pushed it back behind Patricia's ear. "You are doing too much too soon...it will all come but not as fast as you want it too."

As he heard no word in responce, the man moved his hand from Patricia's hair before leaving his arms to scoop her up into his arms. "Come on...let's let engineer know the news that they are waiting for...the prototype isn't working as well as it should. The lads down there are gonna love you you know? The amount of work you do be giving them lately."

Instead of crying, the woman pressed her face in against the man's chest as she wished the world away. She much as Patricia wanted to hate this man she knew every work that he spoke was true. Her only wish was for everything to go back to the way it was before.

The Doctor in her head told her he was right...this was life changing. The psychiatrist in her head told her she needed time that time would heal the biggest wound. But the woman inside just wanted to cry...she wanted to be who she was before and she wanted it to happen now. She didn't want to have to depend on others because a part of her failed...she just wanted to be her again.
