Mission:
Episode 12 - Risin' To Risa
Location: Captain's Ready Room - Deck 1 - USS Pioneer
Timeline: MD011 0930 hrs
A smile was on Thex face as the turbo lift doors opened onto the bridge. Her stuff was stored and now it was time to introduce herself to the new captain she'd been serving under.
Her uniform was crisp hair done up in her pony tail and transfer pad in her uniform pocket.
Striding over to the ready room she waited for the door sensors to detect her.
Tyler pinched the bridge of his nose as he continued to go over the paperwork on ship repairs and crew transfers. What made it worse was he had another hole in his fridge crew. Two days ago Claire Eriksson was transfered back to Earth with her family. The ink wasn't even dry on her arrival orders. A day ago Tyler requested a new Chief of Operations, one that could get he before the ship left on a new mission. He was just looking at the candidates when the chime to the Ready Room rang. "Come on in" called as he tossed a PADD into his desk.
Giving her ponytail one final flick to the back of her head Thex stepped into the ready room and stood to attention. "Lieutiant Thex sh'Zoarhi reporting for duty sir."
"Lieutenant welcome aboard. Can I get you anything? Please have a seat. I am certainly glad to see you. It would have been hard leaving the station without an Operations Chief. Tell me, was your journey here uneventful?" Tyler pointed toward one of the chairs in front of the desk as he spoke.
"No sir, I was dropped off on Risa and been spending my shore leave there for a few weeks." Thex explained.
"Excellent... I am glad that you were able to get some time to yourself. You may have run in to some of the crew. Empok Nor has been gracious to loan us a number of shuttles so the crew could get to and from Risa. As for myself the misses and I spent our leave on Bajor. Do you have any questions for me?" Tyler sipped his coffee. These informal interviews were the quickest and best ways for the Captain to get to know any new officer.
"Do we have any info on the next mission sir?" Thex inquired.
"As of right now our orders are to patrol the area formerly known as the Neutral Zone. We will most likely be there for a couple of weeks and then return to Cardassia to assist in diplomatic relations there. Sorry you seemed to have joined us just as we were getting to the boring patrol assignments." Tyler said with a laugh. Truth was he welcomed these assignments after all the non stop hub bub as it were.
Thex let out a chuckle. " My previous posting was mostly the same sir. I'm sure the universe will throw something at us."
"It always does... it always does." Tyler said with a laugh of his own. He thought it may be time to put the Andorian in the hot seat as it were. "So, tell me as an Operations Chief what is the single most important system on a starship? Keep in mind I came up through the ranks in Operations."
"The sensors sir." Thex replied calmly. "Without them, we'd be blind unless you want to send someone outside with a space suit and telescope."
Tyler laughed at the woman's joke. "I would have said replicators because they make coffee and without coffee we all die. But I see your point." In truth there was no wrong answer to Tyler's question. He used it to see where the other person's priorities were. "Do you plan on staying aboard the Pioneer for a while?"
"Yes sir I want to get used to the girl before we get under way." Thex responded honestly.
"Well then I am sure that you and Lieutenant Diari will get along swimmingly. The Operations Center and your office are on deck six. The ship's Quartermaster will assign you quarters." Tyler wanted to make sure that she knew the basic lay of the land. "Is this your first deep space assignment?"
"Yes sir. Most of my other assignments have been in system patrol and some work in Orion space." The replied.
"Right then, if you have no other questions. I will allow you to get to know your department and settle in." Tyler's smile beamed. Out of all the races that had served aboard the Pioneer, those that were Andorian remain the most elusive. He was glad to see this founding race to the Federation represented aboard his vessel.
