Mission:
Episode 13 - Crooked River
Location: Sick Bay - Deck 5 _ USS Pioneer
Timeline: MD003 1000 hrs
Hermia was in her office when she had received word that her new Nurse had arrived.
Felena entered sickbay, although she had been a nurse for several years, meeting her new boss always made her a little anxious.
Hermia opened her door to see a tall Vulcanoid in Sciences blue approaching her. "You must be Doctor Nurse Zarl." She said as she got closer.
"Yes, ma'am." Felena said.
"Welcome to the Pioneer." Hermia said. "I'll give you the 10 cent tour, but first I'd like to know more about you."
"Of course, what would you like to know?" Felena said.
"What made you want to become a nurse?" Hermia asked.
"My mother is a doctor and I used to help out at her clinic. I enjoyed the work, so I took a nursing course on my homeworld that specialised in Vulcanoid anatomy and medicine. I then enlisted in Starfleet as a nurse and learned more about humanoid medicine." The Zami replied.
"Good, what experience do you have besides aiding your mother?"
"I've served on the Harrisburg as a general nurse, and the de Graaf as a Vulcanoid specialist." Felena said.
"Okay, I know the de Graaf, its a Galaxy Class. Well, as you can see, our Sickbay isn't as big as the one on that vessel, but it has all we need. The surgical biobed has a containment field that can be erected to isolate it from the rest of Sickbay, we have three other biobeds, as on all vessels, the Mess Hall and cargo bays can function as triage or wards in the case of an emergency. There are attached medical science labs and a morgue, also on this deck." Hermia said. "Any questions?"
"What about the EMH? I've heard its not the standard one."
"Well, you heard correctly our EMH is based in form and manner on Admiral Leonard McCoy and as such he can be a little cantankerous."
"Interesting, the Admiral came to my world once, he was on the original Enterprise at the time. My grandmother met him and said he was an excellent doctor and a very generous lover."
"That's nice." Hermia said.
"So, can I meet the EMH now?" She asked.
"Sure, Computer activate EMH." Hermia said.
The air swirled next to Hermia as photons were created out of thin air. Within moments the image of Leonard H McCoy wearing a modern Starfleet uniform formed into existence. The genteel Southern voice of the Pioneer's EMH, who liked to be called Bones, rang out. "Now, what seems to be the problem."
"Bones, we have a new crew member who'd like to meet you." Hermia said.
"Damn it, I'm a doctor, not some fairground attraction." Bones said gruffly.
"A pleasure to meet you, Bones." Felena said.
The hologram turned toward the newcomer and his gruff exterior melted away. It was replaced by the soft spoken country doctor. The other side of Leonard McCoy's personality. "No, my dear the pleasure was all mine. Now don't forget to turn me off if we are all done here. That is unless you would like some brunch."
"Thank you, Bones, maybe later." Felena said giving him a smile. "Computer deactivate EMH."
The air swirled again and Bones was gone.
"I must congratulate his creators, he is just as my grandmother described him." Felena said. "I believe I will like it here."
Hermia could only laugh.
