Mission: http://www.uss-pioneer.net/index.php/sim/missions/id/21
Location: Station Commander's Office - Deck 1 - Central Core - Empok Nor
Timeline: MD001 0900 hrs

Winfield could not believe his eyes. He had read the report at least a dozen times since he received it last night. Lieutenant Commander Calvin Quaid seemed to be responsible for the Cardassians ability to board the station. "I have known him since his time at the Academy this just does not make any sense." He said to the open room as he paced his office.

The fact was unless they found Quaid no one would no what really happened. "I need someone who can find him and in a hurry. I know Dartaw could do it, but I can't spare him..." Hood's voice trailed off as the idea occurred to him. He tapped his comm badge. "Hood to Lieutenant Commander Myles. Please report to my office."

Larim tapped his commbadge. "On my way, Captain" he said. Luckily he was close by a turbolift. It didn't take him long to get there. Larim walked in. "You wanted to see me, sir?"

"Yes Commander, have a seat please." When Larim was seated and the niceties observed Hood continued, before he got to the point he had to take the measure of the man. "Commander I know that you are new here. I believe the Pioneer dropped you off less than a week ago. So, tell me how are you and your wife acclimating to the station. I know a new posting can have its trials. That old Klingon not giving you too much trouble is he?" Winfield poured out two coffees as he spoke. He added brown sugar and cream to his.

Larim smiled a little. "Getting settled alright I'd say. Lax is showing me around. All the best food places at least" he laughed. "Thank you for asking"

"Allow me to add my recommendation to the list. The White Stag Pub is perhaps the most home like. Mickey always has a smile, a drink, and a good story. You tell him that the Hood sent you and he may just give you a discount." Winfield said with a smile and took another sip of coffee. He delayed and he knew it, he also knew that the man who sat in front of him was Betazoid. As such Larim probably already knew something was up.

"Larim I am going to cut to the chase. I asked you here for more than just small talk. I have a mission for you. You may recall while you were aboard the Pioneer this station was taken by the Obsidian Order with the help of the New Maquis. You among the rest of the Pioneer crew were instrumental in getting this station back. A member of this station's crew the former Chief Strategic Operations officer, a certain Lieutenant Commander Calvin Quaid has not been seen since that battle. It is believed that he gave command codes to the enemy so they could take the station. Your mission would be to find him, and bring him in for questioning." Hood laid out the basics of the mission to see exactly how Larim would react.

Larim just slowly nodded. He remembered that fight well. As he was sure Lax did as well. "Inside job...I see" he said. He could feel a slight twinge of anger rise up, but he wouldn't let the CO know. "I remember." He said. "That was an interesting fight" he began. "They certainly got a few good licks in, I'll tell you that. Lax tells me they got into engineering. She got a scar out of that episode"

Hood nodded sympathetically, he knew that Larim must be harboring anger for the pain given his wife. "I need to bring Quaid in to answer for this. You are the best man for the job, as you are far removed from this station being new to the crew. Most of the others are personally involved in this, they knew Quaid, were friends with him. I would also add that your record for investigations is top notch. Add to that the agreement that Commodore Malbrooke gives with this idea and I saw the writing on the wall."

"You can certainly count on me, sir. I'll catch him" Larim said "Do we have any leads?"

"At the moment all we have is that he took a runabout, the Hudson and disappeared. We followed the warp trail as far as we could and it looks like it may be heading toward the Badlands but we are not sure. Under the authorization of Commodore Malbrooke I am granting you command of the USS Katana. This ship is garrisoned to the station. You are to assemble a crew and leave as soon as you are ready." Hood smiled as he handed Larim a PADD that showed the orders. The smile was a reflex of sorts. Something he always did when granting someone a command. "I feel I should add that as you gather a crew, gather those you can trust. I would take no one from the command crew of this station. We just do not know if we have a conspiracy on our hands."

Larim nodded. "I understand. And I completely agree. Last thing we need is Quaid getting wind we are coming. I have a few ideas on who to ask. Maybe have Lax tag along to run engineering, I should be able to trust her" he chuckled.

"That would work. You are going to have to assemble a command crew. However, we do need to observe the official proceedings. Computer transfer command of the USS Katana to Lieutenant Commander Larim Myles as of this Stardate. Authorization Hood-Tango-3-3-6-9-0." Winfield spoke in an official tone.

The computer acknowledged and then spoke. "Awaiting the acceptance and new command code for USS Katana."

"Lieutenant Commander Larim Myles. Accept command as of this stardate. Authorization Myles Gamma-3-4-1-0-7"

The computer chimed and spoke again in its soft genial voice. "USS Katana NCC-61425 now under the command of Lieutenant Commander Larim Myles."

"She is docked in the Docking Ring Deck 20 and she is all yours. Congratulations Captain..." Hood gave the title of Captain as a sign of respect it was title that anyone who commanded a ship would get regardless of rank. "...I will give you some time to get things in order and assemble a crew. Don't take too much time though we have to get on the trail of Quaid. However, how much time do you think you will need?"

"One week at the latest, sir." Larim said." Like i said, I already have a fair idea on who to get as my crew. Its logical to leave as soon as possible. Each day that passes Quaid gets farther away."

"Agreed I will have Commander Jax and her team make the Katan ready to leave. In the meantime I would say you have some work to do. If you have no other questions then I would say get to it." Hood was nothing if not direct. He knew there would be time to get to know Myles and hopefully become friends. However, this was not that time.

I'll leave as soon as I get my crew together, sir." Larim replied

"Very well Commander. Good hunting!" Hood replied by way of dismissal. He did not know Larim well, and that was why Myles was perfect for this mission, the detachment. Winfield hoped he would not regret this decision.
