Mission: Carthage Rises
Location: USS Carthage - Captain's Ready Room.
Timeline: MD01 1415

Zhan had sent a message to Dr. Bakshi-Williams to report to his Ready Room as soon as she came aboard.

Anahera was already there and they were discussing their over all mission.

Lahki rang the chime for her new CO's office. She waited until she was given permission, then entered the room. "LCdr Lahki Bakshi-Williams reporting." She quickly took a seat.

"Nice to meet you, Commander, and Welcome aboard." Zhan said. "This is Lt.Commander Chernova, the XO."

"Good morning Doctor." Anahera said. "Can I get you something to drink?" She asked.

Lahki smiled. "Good morning. Black coffee, please." It was a TERRIBLE habit she had-drinking too much coffee. But it was how she'd survived this long out here, after seeing the things she had. She settled in. "Thank you!!" She said, when the coffee was sat in front of her.

"Lahki, if I may use your first name, I have called you here because our overall mission is to provide humanitarian aid to the former client states of the Cardassian Union and I want to make sure you and your people are equipped to do so." Zhan said.

She nodded. "It is fine if you call me Lahki; I answer to most things!" She said. "Commander is a mouthful and Dr. Bakshi-Williams makes me sound like an old lady." She WAS older but she wasn't yet out to pasture. "I am prepared to take up to 150 people in the main sickbay and an additional 50 in the auxiliary medical bay. My staff is equipped to provide on-the-ground care, as well." She knew this-she had mostly hand picked her team, save the most junior officers and cadets. "Just tell me when and where, and we'll be there." She sipped the coffee. There was more-she could sense it. She WAS Betazoid, after all.

"Good." Zhan said. "I also need you to know that former Cardassian space is now like America's Ancient Wild West. Old conflicts that were kept in check by a Cardassian presence have reignited in their absence. Also we're not going to get much help out there, Cardassian patrol few and far between."

Lahki sighed, but nodded. "I have heard as much. A close friend of mine is Cardassian. She's been a little worried." Vila worried too much anyway-the woman was tightly wound. "I understand what we face. Besides the medical bay, I can always put folks in the science labs if I must. My ACMO is fantastic, she's well trained, and my head nurse is lovely. I feel we're ready."

"Glad to hear it." Zhan replied.

"There's one last thing, you should be aware of..." Anahera began. Zhan shook his head, but Anahera nodded and continued. "We're under a microscope, many people in Starfleet Command are, to put it lightly, not big fans of myself or the CO, and a rooting for us to fail. I think its only fair that you know what you're getting yourself into, Lahki."

She sighed but nodded. "Thank you for alerting me. I think my record and my work speak for themselves but I will make certain every last T is crossed and I is dotted. My people will be perfect." She wouldn't have stood for less anyway. "I feel confident in their abilities-and mine. You just let me know what you need me to do, and I will do it." She said, reassuring them both.

"Glad to hear it, Lahki." Zhan said. "Unless you have any questions, you're dismissed."

Lahki smiled, and shook her head. "I do not, but I will keep an open line of communication. Thank you!" She stood up, and left, quietly. She better go tell her people to expect some busy times ahead.

"Very good, if you need anything, just contact Commander Chernova and she'll take care of it." Zhan said.

Anahera just nodded.

Once the CMO was gone, Anahera said. "Sorry, Boss, but I thought she should know what she's getting herself into."

"Its fine, its done now." Zhan replied.
