Mission: Episode 14 - The Poseidon Adventure
Location: After 11 - Deck 11 - USS Pioneer
Timeline: MD009 1500 hrs

Normally, Alyssa and Jayna had to schedule time to practice together as Alyssa worked Alpha shift and Jayna Beta, but with shore leave, they were both off and wanted to make the most of it. They set up time between exploring the station and planet, catching up on projects, and other activities, to meet in After 11. A holodeck was good, for the most part, but sometimes holding a real knife--and being concerned you would miss--made a difference.

They used a corner of After 11 and set up padding behind the target so they wouldn't damage the ship if--or when--they missed.

They'd both chosen civilian attire. Jayna was in a black jumpsuit, unzipped enough to show her cleavage while Alyssa chose a dark purple sarong. "So, what shall we try first?" Alyssa asked, walking over to the Vulcan.

"Knives, I think." Jayna had a dozen throwing knives lined up on a small table. Half were a mat black with a black IDIC on the bottom of the knife. The other six were dark silver with a lotus flower. "This is so we can tell who hits what." She grinned at the science officer.

"Oh, there's no question of that. Mine will be the ones that miss," Alyssa quipped. She looked over the knives. "These are nice. I really need to get myself a set."

"I know someone who makes perfectly balanced throwing knives. I prefer them to replicated ones. Just let me know and I'll order you a set."

Alyssa was eyeing the silver set. "I wouldn't mind something like this. I especially like the lotus flower."

"Okay. I'll put in an order. You can use those for now." Jayna liked the silver, but the black ones were her favorite. "You go first."

"Of course, so you can show me up," Alyssa teased. She took the six and went to the strip of gaff tape that marked the throwing line. She'd been practicing in private but wasn't sure how she'd do in the lounge where others could watch. She took a deep breath, aimed, and threw the knives, one by one. She was very pleased to see that all six hit the target, though only one hit the center.

Jayna smiled, pleased to see Alyssa's progress. "Excellent."

"No, but I'll settle for good," The science officer laughed as she retrieved her knives and moved off to the side.

The Vulcan took her place on the line and focused on the center before throwing her knives one-by-one, each hitting somewhere in the central area.

"You know, I'm glad this is just for fun," Alyssa quipped. "That's impressive."

"I've been working at it for a long time," Jayna responded with a shrug. The skill had come in handy on more than one occasion. "I'm sure you'll do better with the blowgun."

Try something new, she said. I'll be with you, she said. What was I thinking? Despite his reluctant thoughts, his feet carried him further and further until he was at the precipice of After 11. He was dressed in blue jeans and a button-down shirt. The shirt hung out sloppily from his jeans, only half tucked in. He wore a blue V-neck sweater over it. "What am I doing?" he muttered to himself. He looked into After 11, debating if he could leave before anyone saw him.

Paisley was already IN the lounge, because of course she was. She spotted Jayna and approached from her table in the back, where she was hanging out some of the others. "What are you ladies doing today? More climbing?" She was interested-she had had fun rock climbing. She, herself, was dressed more casually-a pair of tight yoga pants, and a sports' bra under a zip-up jacket. She had come from the gym. From the corner of her eye, she spotted Connor.

"No, knife..." Jayna began, but she was cut off by Paisley's yell.

"TURNER!" She called out. "Come here!" She laughed, but turned back to Alyssa. "Have you met Connor yet? He's the new computer....something. Anyway. If we're not climbing, I'm going back to my food! See ya!"

Alyssa just raised an eyebrow. She'd ask for details later.

"Okay," Jayna said, raising an eyebrow at the abrupt conversation. That was...interesting, to say the least.

Ja'sol had just finished up the last of his reports and wanted to unwind, He smiled as he walked through the doors of after eleven and ordered a glass of Jameson whiskey and looked around the bar to see if anything of interest was going on. He saw two ladies throwing knives at a dart board and moved closer to watch. After a few minutes of watching, he approached Alyssa and Mira. " Pardon me ladies, I couldn't help but notice that you both seem to be rather decent at knife throwing, If I brought you a target would you be willing to give it a try? " He asked.

Jayna turned to the new arrival. "Sure. What sort of target do you have in mind?"

"Would you like to join us?" Alyssa added.

Ja'sol smiled. " I wouldn't mind joining your group for a while. He said. " But as for the target it would be easier to show you then tell you. I'll be back in a minute or two. " He quickly departed and returned back in a few minutes with a plank of hardwood two meters in length by a meter and a half in width and two and a half centimeters thick, He leaned it up against the wall where the dart board was.

" The point of any exercise as you well know is focus and control. " Stated Ja'sol. " The object of this exercise is not to hit anything gold or black that is in front of the board. " He said as he stood in front of the board and folded his arms in front of him. " Begin when you’re ready and take your time. " Said the security chief in front of the target board.

Alyssa looked it over carefully and let out a long, slow breath. "I'll do better with my blowgun, but here goes."

She threw each knife, aiming carefully. Four of the knives made it past the gold and black. But only two of them hit the target cleanly. "That is a good challenge." She turned to Jayna. "Let me watch you do it."

Jayna took the opportunity to observe the new setup. When it was her turn, she nodded and positioned herself on the throw line. All of her knives made it past Ja'sol to the target behind, and all were respectable, though not as tight a grouping as before. "Go ahead and try it again," she said, collecting her knives.

Alyssa did so, again landing four of her knives, but this time all were within the target. Jayna, too, did better.

When they finished, Jayna turned to Ja'sol. "I like that. Thank you."

Ja'sol gave a slight bow and then picked up his drink and took a sip. " I normally don't stand as a target in front of a board unless I'm sure the person has some decent skills. It's the same thing my father taught me when he taught me the use of the Vor-shee when I was a boy. For a person to improve they must be shown that you have trust in them and allow them to focus on the lesson at hand. " He said and being pleased he could be of some help.

"That's a great lesson for Jayna, but I could have done some damage," Alyssa admitted. "Although I do appreciate the lesson."

"No. I think you just needed to prove to yourself that you could do it." Jayna replied, then turned to the chief of security and gave him a half-bow. "Thank you."

Ja'sol gave a lighthearted laugh. " To tell the truth I wasn't really worried about it. We have an excellent medical staff aboard this ship that would have fixed me up quick enough. Besides if I were to die, I would rather it be at the hands of two attractive ladies then say the Breen or Jem'Hadar. And since I didn't die, I've made two new friends. So, no worries. " He said. " To celebrate me not dying, may I buy you both a drink? "

"Yes, you may," Alyssa replied. "We both would."

Bollocks! Of all the people! Is she stalking me? Connor froze in place. Paisley was his superior officer and she was calling him over, almost like a dog. Reluctantly and slowly, he walked to Paisley and said, while looking at his feet, "Computer specialist. I'm a computer specialist."

She smiled. "He's that. Anyway. I was just asking Alyssa here what she was doing. Have you met the ladies yet? Lt Commander Alyssa Maren and LTJG Mira Jayna. I haven't officially met the Commander yet, but Jayna I know from rock climbing! You should say hello, it's only polite." She glanced back at her table, where her bunkmate, Ens Charlie Dawes, with her boyfriend, Taylon James, sat, staring, giggling at them. Charlie knew part of the story about Connor-PAISLEY'S part, about how annoying and dweeby he was. "Anyway. Why are YOU here?" She asked Connor. "This place seems a bit too...loud for you."

"Knife throwing," Alyssa replied, trying to suppress a smile. "Nice to meet you, Connor," she replied politely. Then she turned to Paisley. "I don't think I know your name, though you're clearly in Engineering."

Zhara had been at a side table, waiting for Connor. As she planned to visit the station after, she'd chosen to wear a peasant blouse with a green and gold vest over a black skirt in a modern Gypsy style. When she heard Paisley yell for him to join her, she decided she should be in the group before Connor turned and ran. "Hello, everyone. Ensign Turner, I'm glad you made it."

She knew most of the people in the group. All but the loud one. Zhara turned to her. "I don't believe we've met. I'm Zhara."
