Having sent a message via the ships communication setup to request this meeting and having it confirmed. Heidy found herself pacing outside an office, not for the first time in her life, her request was not what concerned her rather who she had to request it of the senior officer of a department that still held bitter sweet memories for her.

A definite stride and a purposeful jab of the keypad and she strolled inside. Offering the Romulan who occupied the space a whisper of a smile. "Lieutenant. Thank you for agreeing to see me, I won't take up much of your time, but I like the personal touch."

Vaebn gave her the briefest glance as he stood, "Please, come in and have a seat." He gestured to the pair of chairs in front of his desk. "It's not often that I receive a communique requesting a meeting. I believe the most fitting phrase in your culture would be, to what do I owe the pleasure?"

"Permission, sir." Heidy stated simply and plainly as she took a seat that was offered and then "Well a request for a permission, which of course is an obvious pairing as if a permission is not automatically granted it must be requested." Pause for breath, as her focus which to the is point had been fixed on the officer in front of her suddenly switch and she looked all around as if she expected not to be alone and shifted in the chair. "Sorry sir, word around the head hip is there is a hydroponics setup on the ship, is that true and can I rent a small corner? "

"You want to rent a corner of the hydroponics bay?" Vaebn queried. "I wasn't under the impression that I was allowed to charge for space that fell under the Science Department. Perhaps your idea will lead me to an early retirement."

Now either the officer was trying for humor or he genuinely misunderstood Heidy, regardless her reaction to his response was to crackers a smile and let out a genuine and unrestrained giggle, which she quickly controlled. " 'pologies, sir. I assumed my meaning would be clear by context even it wasn't technically correct. I'd like to use a plot in the hydroponics bay if you don't mind." She repeated before adding. "It's for a little hobby project I'd like to carry on."

Vaebn sat down and leaned back in his chair. "Hmmm.... A plot in the hydroponics bay. Is that all?" He steepled his hands to together at his chin. "I may be able to make you a better offer. Currently, we have no experiments or work being done in the hydroponics bay as our current staffing is based around stellar and physical sciences, and I don't believe our botanist was expected for another 3 months or so. Perhaps you would like to use the entire bay for your pet project, that is, as long as you keep records and can remember to keep me updated with your progress."

Leaning back in her chair, Heidy let out a sigh at what Vaebn had to say. She'd made this approach based on scuttlebucket around the ship, and was anticipating that maybe she would have to work around another officer. Which she was fine with, someone else to run things, to take care of administrative tasks. "With respect sir, I was looking for a stand alone plot to run a hobby about 2 meters square, to grow a few species of peppers" She responded the thought that she might come across as ungrateful occurred to her, but she saw this as sliding back under the science department, and that scared her not for the extra responsibility but for the of memories it might bring up. "I would of course follow protocol and file requestions and reports, but I'm not looking to start running a sub department, sir."

Vaebn observed closer as she spoke, not sure why the sigh at the prospect of getting much more than she asked for, but he knew that it was not his place to pry. After she spoke her mind he thought for a moment. "That was not my intention Petty Officer, however, if you wish to indulge in your hobby, I will give you full access to the bay and allow you to use what space you see fit. I do have a request though. Perhaps you could add a few Romulan peppers to your crop, and instead of reports and requisitions, you indulge me a tasting of whatever you cook up from your hobby crop."

"That sounds to me like an agreeable arrangement. I've never grown or tasted romulan peppers before so it will be a new one on me." Heidy responded cheerily, as she visiblly relaxed, she was happy with this little hobby was remaining a little hobby. "I'll do some research and see what I can source, it may take a little time to get the raw seeds, but I expect it'll be worth the wait."

"I have no doubt of that, and I cannot wait to see what you produce in the labs. At least they will be getting some use for a while." He leaned back in the chair again, "Was there anything else I can do for you?"

"Good one, sir, but that was everything thank you ." Heidy responded with a smile and rose from her chair extending a hand to Vaebn, not her usual way, but it felt like a good way to end this meeting.

Vaebn stood and accepted the outstretched hand, "You are most welcome. Good luck on your planting, I look forward to the results." he said as he shook her hand.
