Mission: Episode 14 - The Poseidon Adventure
Location: Main Engineering - Deck 11 - USS Pioneer
Timeline: MD010 1100 hrs

Joah stood still for a moment and looked through one of the large windows. From here he had a fairly good view of Platform three, the location where the USS Pioneer had docked. Joah had always found the Intrepid class aesthetically pleasing and he looked forward to being aboard one again.

A good ten minutes later he set foot on board the Pioneer and headed in the direction of Main Engineering. It was only when he was about to enter Engineering that he thought it would be better to check first with the computer where the Pioneer’s CEO actually was.

“Computer, where is Lieutenant Elen Diari?”

“Lieutenant Diari is currently unavailable” The computer chirped.

El stuck her head out of her alcove office to the right of the warp core “Hi. Looking for me ? I’ve got that running to hide from the XO- he’s after battle drills again”

“If you’re Lieutenant Diari, then yes, I was looking for you. Is he Klingon?” Joah asked, assuming it to be a possibility. “The XO of the Pioneer.”

“Neil, No he’s Terran. Just a marine” She replied.

“A marine. Okay, my fault, but I was close.” The Bajoran Chief Operations said and then extended his hand. “I’m Lieutenant Commander Jezka Joah, or JJ for short. Chief of Station Operations at Poseidon Station.”

“Elen Diari, El for short. Used to be your equivalent at Finland Station, now head wrench wrangler here, babysitter to that monstrosity.” She answered, taking the handshake, and nodding towards the QSD.

Joah looked at the QSD. “You say monstrosity, I say beauty. Of course, I know you were making a joke. When was the last maintenance routine?” Working on a QSD was something he wouldn’t mind at all. If he could squeeze it in between his work on the station.

“This morning, but due an offline service in about two weeks. We’ve only had it installed for a few months, the professionals said it would take about a year to settle in, and not be so twitchy. Luckily it’s separated from the power grid, so can keep the lights on when it does go out of sync.” Elen explained.

“So no chance for me to work on it and learn some more. Ah well, maybe next time then.” The Bajoran said. “Anyway, I’m actually here because I got a message about the Bussard-collectors of the Pioneer.”

“Yuri and Gijs are doing a training run on it this afternoon at 1500, if you want to join them, you’ll be more than welcome, give you a feel for the drive. The betazoid tried to reassure him. “Bring snacks and they’ll give you free reign of the simulator.”

Elen continued “Yeah, the Starboard bussard’s filter is blocked. Just want to climb on the nacelle, take it out, and shake the blockage out. Should take all of five minutes in an atmosphere.”

“Five minutes you say? That must be a record time.” Joah was both surprised and a little disappointed. “I wonder then why I got informed of the maintenance routine. Perhaps I got the message by mistake.”

“Probably because I asked for atmospheric drydock time, and put ‘routine maintenance’ in the description box of the form, and booked the whole hour for any other repairs that crop up on a visual inspection, like loose panels, or things that have fallen off. I know there’s some micrometeorite damage on the nose, but not sure if the bits need replacing yet.” Elen felt his disappointment, and tried to cheer Joah up.

Joah nodded. “So it’s more than just the Bussard’s filter. I guess I should’ve paid more attention to the details of the request.” He smiled apologetically. “You’ll have to excuse me. After the Breen attack here the whole of the Operations and Engineering team is busy with making repairs. And if that’s not enough, a VIP is visiting the station, which means more people, which means more maintenance of public accessible systems.”

“If you need any extra help, just ask any of the team here. Sure a few of them will be happy to lend a hand, even if it’s only a couple of hours. I’ve got a couple of personal errands to run after the drydock, then I’ll be over too.” Elen waved over the open engineering deck.

“We can surely use more hands. Thanks for the offer.” The momentary wave of disappointment had already gone. Joah took a quick look around Main Engineering. “I’ll do a short round before I go back to the station. So, 15:00 sharp here for that training run on the QSD and bring snacks. Got it. Do you mind if I’ll help you out with your maintenance job? It’s been some time since I last worked on a beauty like this.”

“You’re very welcome to, I’d appreciate a second pair of eyes on stuff, especially on the nacelle hinge. Rolled over my ankle going over there a few months ago.” El sheepishly admitted.

A frown crossed Joah’s face. “That must’ve hurt a bit.” The frown disappeared and was replaced by a comforting smile. “I’ll be there. When did you plan on starting?”

“As soon as we’re in drydock and things are powered down, hopefully. If you want, while we’re here, you can have full engineering access to look at whatever you like- just don’t borrow all our tools” Elen suggested.

“Thanks, but I would already be happy to be able to work again on a Intrepid class ship. I should not be poking my nose into someone else’s business.” Joah answered. “I have to get back to the station. Let me know when you’re ready and I’ll meet you at the drydock.”
