Mission: Episode 15 - The Evil That Lies Beneath
Location: Main Engineering - Deck 11 - USS Pioneer
Timeline: MD001 0900 hrs

It was time to report to her new department head, a Lieutenant Diari. Milly wondered what it was going to be like working with the lady. She had come here right after seeing the Counselor, knowing that she didn't want to be late. Not on her first day on the Pioneer. Looking around, she didn't see anyone remotely looking like the Department head. Not wanting to bother anyone, Milly found her way to the office of Lieutenant Diari and rang the chime. Would she be in there or would the lieutenant be busy somewhere on the ship.

A blonde woman was sitting at the master systems desk next to the core "Diari's not here. called away off-ship. The assistant guy off too" she called over, putting her coffee down.

"Oh? Okay sorry to hear that, who do I report in to now?" Milly was a little bit uncertain as to what to do next. She's not had this happen before. "I'm Ensign Ambrose."

"Elen." the woman replied "I'll get you sorted out and hidden away somewhere safe before they get back, go get yourself a drink from the 'cator and relax."

"Oh okay, I don't know if I can relax but I'll get a drink. I came here to start doing some work though. Is there anything on the work roster to be done? Even cleaning something?" Lily hadn't quite gotten a good look at the blonde woman who had spoken to her. She was looking around at Engineering.

"Sure, we'll have you working soon enough, just wanted a little chat to see what you're like, and find you the right team to be in, no point in putting you in a damage control team, if you're a transporter specialist." Elen smiled "this place is bad enough, don't want you working on something that sucks too."

"Well, I worked in my aunt and uncle's repair shop before I joined Star Fleet. I don't know if I am a specialist on any one thing. I do go where I am needed. Always willing to help out, I don't mind getting dirty either. I never even thought of specializing in any one area. It seemed my not choosing a specialization sorta frustrated some of my instructors." Milly giving a one shoulder shrug. "I asked them point blank, do I really need to specialize in something? Maybe my specialization is support staff?" a small smile appeared. "They literaly threw their hands in the air and walked away." Milly finally making eye contact with the woman she's been talking to.

"Cool. I'm a woodworker by hobby, fixer by boring trade- trained as a particle physicist, Don't ask. Think I have the perfect project for you. There's a section of deck five we seem to have problems with- things will fail, lights, grav plate, power, go to check and they'll be fine, or read OK, but you know they're not. tricorder, diags say light on, but no light that sort of thing- lost count the number of times replaced bits and bobs. Need somebody to just go in there, take everything to bits, and solve it, Sound like something you'd be in to ?" Elen explained, fishing out a padd on the subject.

"That does sound like something I can get into." Milly giving a grin. "I like to track down what's being iffy, and see if I can resolve it." As she was thinking of what could be the problem, something else was starting to filter through. "Didn't you mention your name was Elen, is your last name Diari?" Milly was thinking that maybe she was talking to the Chief engineer.

Elen just laughed. "It is, Milly, just wanted you to be relaxed with me, rather than scared of the Lieutenant, Chief of Engineering titles. Oh, don't call me sir, ma'am or anything like that unless the core's on fire, we don't stand on rank down here."

"Okay, I can work with that." For some reason Milly was feeling slightly at ease with Elen. Maybe it was just how Elen had addressed her and how she greeted Milly.

"What will be my work schedule? I've got an tentative appointment with Vura, the chief Counselor, and she wanted me to see when I can come in. It all depending on my work schedule." Milly remarked.

"Sure, I'll put you on Beta shift, 0800 to 1600, two days on, one day off" Elen suggested "but if you need to take time for appointments, just let me know the day before, either in person, or leave a message on the table- not just for counselling, but anything else. Like Sven, he's off today doing some command training."

"That sounds like a doable schedule, and thank you. I will make certain to let you know when I have appointments" Milly responded with a slight smile. Again, there was just something about Elen that was making Milly feel a little bit comfortable. Milly had a slight worry about that, feeling a bit comfortable. Gosh, this is why she was going to see Vura, just to get rid of her doubts about her feelings where people are concerned. Vura was correct, Milly didn't trust her own instincts, her feelings where others were concerned. She used to be confident in that, but now... Stupid Alaric, you were such an ass... Why was I so stupid in falling for you

The chief slid over a padd "Here's all the paperwork for the work done on deck five, have a look over it. Then call it a day, and get any personal stuff sorted. You're new here, so I suppose you haven't got your quarters right yet. Go do that, and get any gear you need replicated, All right ?"

Milly gave a nod, "Okay, I did get my assigned quarters. I just, well, tossed my gear on my bed and left." Milly giving a chagrined smile. "I'll go get it sorted out then, and thank you Elen, I appreciate this, a lot." Milly picking up the padd.

"No problem at all, If you need anything, just find me. See you tomorrow, and I'll introduce to some of the others you'll be working with. They don't bite, but Mio's a bit grumpy at the moment, she's shedding, so we're keeping our distance for her comfort." The chief commented.

Milly worried her lower lip then gave a nod. "Okay, I can do that, it would be a good idea to meet with them. Uh, Mio? Who is that?" Milly was now wondering about someone who was shedding their skin. Her eyebrows raising. It was now seeming to Milly that this team of engineers wasn't like anywhere else.

"Mio, the Kubuta, red exoskeleton. Environmental systems." Elen pulled up her picture on the table " the Kubuta shed their skeleton every few years, suppose she'll have to get her tattoos done again".

"Okay. I will follow your judgement on this one." Milly stated. The more she was talking with Elen, the more comfortable she was feeling. Still in the back of her mind Milly was still worried, however, Elen wasn't the run of the mill sort of person, she was really nice, not overly nice but just the same, Milly was thinking even more that she was going to like it here. Hopefully they will like her work so Milly could stay around.

"Right.Feel free to hang around here for a bit, or go get settled. I'm off to go and play with a wonky replicator" the chief answered, picking up her toolkit "Don't fret about anything, as long as you don't set anything on fire today, you'll have done better than I did on my first day. "

"Okay" Milly actually giving a slight laugh. "I will try not to do something like that. Thank you again Elen I appreciate this alot." She was excited about working here even more.
