"You wished to see me, Boss?" Mac said as she entered Hermia's office.

"Yes, Mac, take a seat." Hermia replied.

"Oh, must be serious." Mac said taking a seat opposite the CMO.

"It is, we're getting a new nurse."

"Great, Command finally responded to my requests." Mac said with a smile.

"Yes, but she's an Ensign and Command insists that their flag ship have an officer as Head Nurse." Hermia said.

Her smile now gone, Mac asked. "So where does that leave me?"

"Well, I'd like you to stay on as my surgical nurse, and if you can stand it, to work as the new Head Nurse's mentor." Hermia said. "But, I understand, if you'd like a transfer."

"I knew my position was going to be a permanent one." Mac said. "So this doesn't come completely out of the blue." She laughed "I'm a former Marine, I don't give up that easily, I'm afraid you're stuck with me, Doc."

"Good." Hermia said. "Her name's Maya Edrei, and she should be here soon."

Speaking of the new head nurse, there was at that moment a chime at the door to the chief medical officer's office. The young Orion officer that stood beyond the door smoothed down her uniform as she waited to be let in; perhaps the chief might be busy, she reckoned. It was always polite to ring, and then wait to be let in, or not.

"Enter." Hermia called out.

At the sound of the chime, Mac got up to leave.

"Mac, I'd like you to stay." Hermia said to her friend and colleague.

"Very well." Mac said and returned to her seat.

Maya entered the office to the sight of the chief medical officer and the chief petty officer seated across from her - the previous head nurse, she guessed, knowing that more often than not nursing personnel were enlisted rather than officers. The latter reminded her of senior chief petty officer Misota, the kind blond-haired senior instructor and clinic manager of the Academy's infirmary who'd helped her through many, many hours of nursing practicals and theory. She felt a little guilty, almost, taking the woman's position from her. Imagine having your job taken away by someone with barely any experience.

"Commander. Chief. I'm Ensign Maya Edrei, the new head nurse." She announced, coming to attention before the two older women. "Reporting as ordered." She held out her PADD containing her posting order.

"Thank you, Ensign." Hermia said accepting the PADD. "Please take a seat." Indicating to Mac, the CMO said. "This is Chief Sara MacCallum, she's my most experienced nurse, and she will be mentoring you in your new position, understood?"

"Understood! I'm pleased to be working with you, Chief." Well, this wasn't so bad after all, was it? Maya smiled a bright, pearly smile and held a hand out to the senior nurse to shake. "I'm glad to be here. Is there anything I ought to know about our current situation, medically?" She asked, directing the question to both the commander and her now mentor.

"Maya, call me, 'Mac', everybody does." Sara said with a smile.

"At the moment its just the usual sprains, contusions and lacerations," Hermia said. "And we have a few new crew members who require post boarding physicals." She added. "For now, just familiarise yourself with the Sickbay and the other staff."

"Can do! I'll start on that right away." Maya smiled and nodded. "Is there anyone we should be chasing down for physicals? I'm sure I can convince them to come in - you know, reminders and such." She suggested.

"I'll prepare a list." Hermia said. "Also we don't stand too much on ceremony here, so when it just the medical staff, call me 'Doc', or 'Boss', no need for ranks or 'ma'ams', okay?" Hermia asked.

"Understood, ma'am. Shall we?" Maya nodded at the former chief nurse. "Will that be all? I'd like to get my feet wet as soon as possible."

"Yes." Mac said rising from her chair.

"Okay, dismissed." Hermia said.

As she watched Mac follow Maya out, Hermia thought Looks like theirs nothing to worry about. She then smiled.
