Mission: Episode 15 - The Evil That Lies Beneath
Location: Briefing Room - Deck 1 - USS Pioneer
Timeline: MD004 0900 hrs

Jack leaned back in the Captain's chair of the Klingon ship as it dropped from warp. The image of the Intrepid Class USS Pioneer was on the viewscreen. "Open a channel to the Pioneer." When he was told the channel was open Jack continued. "Commodore Malbrooke this is Colonel Patton of the Starfleet Marine Corps. I believe we have an appointment with your Security Chief."

Tyler looked at the face on the screen and wondered if this was it. Was this Patton sent to take his ship? He decided he would allow the meeting as to not ruffle any feathers but extra precautions would have to be made. "Of course Colonel. If you reveal yourself you can meet the Lieutenant in the transporter room. Pioneer out." Tyler cut the communication and sent Ja'sol to the transporter room. He then made sure that he could keep tabs on the meeting.

Ja'sol turned to his Captain. " I am aware that I have this appointment, but it shall be interesting to see what it all entails. I shall brief you on it later Sir. " With that said he turned and exited the bridge and went directly to transporter room number two to await the arrival of their guest.

"Disengage the cloak and everyone prepare to transport to the Pioneer for a briefing." Jack said as he rose from the chair.

Ja'sol arrived in the transporter room and told the chief. " Standby to transport. " The transporter hummed and shimmered as the Marines materialized on the transporter pad. " Welcome to the USS Pioneer, I am Lieutenant Ja'sol H'ros. I have the conference room just off of the bridge that will be suitable for your needs, is there anything you require at this time? " He asked.

"I think if you have a nice carafe of coffee with all the trimmings myself and the team will be well taken care of." Jack said with a smile as he fell in step with Ja'sol. "It has been some time since I have been on an Intrepid. Definitely a sight to see."

Phyllis would have preferred something stronger, but that would do. She fell in step with the rest of the Marines, curious to hear what the Pioneer security chief had to say.

Scarlet fell into step with the others as the Marines walked down the corridors of the Intrepid vessel. He'd never been on an Intrepid before, but he knew the stories of the famed Voyager that put this build on the map so to speak. Part of him wondered how this crew or some of his others would have survived on a ship like this.

‘Now this, this is a ship!’ Lance thought as he walked down the passageways of the Intrepid class ship. Something to be admired, especially after the cramped quarters of the Klingon Bird of Prey. Though he admitted it was an apt title, cramped or not it was built for a singular purpose, warfare. Yet this ship he was on said Starfleet, and was a nimble foe indeed.

Upon arrival at the conference room, a pair of Ensigns were just leaving and went directly to the turbolift and departed the bridge area. Ja'sol activated the main monitor and noted that the ensigns had left the the two platters of sandwiches and four carafes of coffee on the table as instructed.

Lance was quick to grab a sandwich, and a cup of the provided coffee. Both of which would taste like a piece of heaven to him! He quickly located a seat and took it ready to enjoy the sandwich and coffee

Ja'sol waited until everyone was seated and had refreshments before begining the briefing. " About twelve hours ago we detected a minor plasma trail that was still moving and active. We were able to plot the trail back to the area of Poseidon Station, We were also able to determine that the ship being tracked is an older D'deridex class warbird that had either a worn or damaged cloaking field and was leaking plasma. My team was also able to plot a course directly into Romulan space, If they stay on that course they will be making a beeline
right to New Romulas.

Ja'sol slid a PaDD across the table to Colonel Patton. " This is a copy of our sensor logs with all the data on your target ship, should they change course you'll be able to follow them with that information as long as the trail doesn't get to old or they take a detour through a nebula. Does anyone have any questions they would like to ask? " Ja'sol inquired. " Oh and before I forget, we have a care package to beam over to your ship. A dozen eight centimeter pillow-top mattresses for your bunks. Klingon ships aren't exactly known for their comfort. "

Phyllis didn't have any questions. The security officer had all they should require, and the mattresses would be appreciated. She'd lived on army cots in the distant past, but any time she could get a comfortable bunk, she'd take it.

Jack chuckled at the comment about the mattresses. He knew that his crew would appreciate and hate them. The hatred would be due to the ribbing they would get from the Klingons. He looked at the PADD and was grateful that they had something to go on. "Tell me Lieutenant. Were you able to get any scans of the ship? Weapons etc... I am wondering if the ship was augmented even though it is an old ship."

Well, at least they had a lead with good potential, Audie thought, and the fact that they were leaving behind a trackable trail indicated that they were not very experienced at this sort of thing. Or...

"How do we know it's not a trap?" she asked, "or a distraction? You'd have to be pretty incompetent to leave a trail like that." Just a thought!

Faraday looked up from his sandwich and directly at Audie Fitch, a real possibility! Yes, a chase to set them up and then make their move to attack the Klingon vessel, but would they even know that their pursuers would have the use of a Bird of Prey? Food for thought.

"They're either incompetent or cocky," Phillis opined. "It's possible they think they outsmarted us. Or we're the ones being cocky."

"I may be way off base here, but I believe they're running, and yes, thinking that they have outsmarted us." Faraday offered. So long as they were able to track the ship they were in pursuit of, then the mission was going according to plan.

Ja'sol looked over his notes. " Well if it is augmented, then it wasn't anything that we could detect. My people were once under the heels of the star empire, as for being cocky or incompetent I would say is incorrect. They are arrogant in the knowledge of knowing they have the best cloaking devices around, but the federation has the best sensors. We have how many member species working and cooperating together? that is the true strength of the federation. The Romulans believe in their own superiority, and cloaking devices need a lot of fine tuning at either a starbase of a shipyard after awhile. If said facility isn't available then leakage will occur if proper advanced maintenance isn't done. " Ja'sol thought a moment. " when dealing with the romulans it's always a good thing to keep believing it's a trap, Romulans love watching people squirm when they fall prey to a romulan trap. "

"That's why I call them cocky," Phyllis said. "They believe in their own superiority and they don't think we'll detect them. But I do agree with both of you that it could very well be a trap." What they did about it was up to the colonel. She just hoped she'd be able to fly them out of whatever it was. Good as she was, sure bets were few and far between.

Scarlet had remained silent during the discussion. He was an outsider to all of this now. It was strange, he thought he missed this life but the more he was around it the more he realized he wanted nothing more than to be on his own. "Trap or no, we prepare the same. We prepare for the worst and go from there."

"Well yeah, there's no reason we should not expect that the Romies are setting us up, and there's no reason to believe that they are not. Whatever our original plan is, that's what we stick to, unless the Skipper says otherwise." Faraday imparted with a slight smile, though using Skipper instead of Captain, a bad habit he had picked up along the way in his career. "So long as we are tracking them there's no fear of them doubling back, and shouldn't any other Romulan ships show up on our scanners long before they can mount an attack?"

At this point Anthony had no real questions to ask that hadn't already been voiced. He just let the conversation flow and if needed he would jump in with a question if he had one.

"Alright, it seems that we have a trail and a ship to catch. We should leave immediately, not sure how long this trail will linger. Lieutenant H'ros thank you for your time and diligence. Thank the Commodore for us as well. We will take it from here." Jack said as he sensed they had learned all they could. He smiled because he could sense that they were catching up.

Ixalia had been quietly sitting in her chair listening to all of the information provided and the questions from her fellow marines. From her perspective, they had all they needed to track these people down, now it was simply a case of getting the job done.

Ja'sol smiled and lowered his head. " May the stars guide you true to your destination and return you safe to your home once again. " He raised his head. " It is a traditional Eldoran travel blessing, and I wish you all success in your endevors. If the trail begins to fade, increase the gain and narrow the search band and it should allow you to follow it to your destination. I'll escort you to the transporter room so you may resume the chase. "
