Mission: Episode 9 - Empok's End
Location: Jefferies Tubes - USS Pioneer
Timeline: MD005 0815 hrs

Dana slumped against the hard metal of the Jefferies tube; she had done it, the ship was safe. She had taken a moment to inform Lieutenant Diari that the warp drive was back online and appraised her of the situation. Closing her eyes, she took a deep breath as she wiped the sweat from her forehead; there were so many emotions flowing through her mind; it was though it was racing. A small smile crept over her face; there was one person that she knew that could reassure her, someone that always had and would always be there for her. Opening her eyes, she gently reached for her communicator.

=/\= Wakefield to Masters, Jen, are you there? =/\=

=/\= This is Masters, how can I help you, Ensign?=/\= She was in her office going through all the intel that was coming from everywhere including Starfleet command. her job was to sift through it and relay it to the other commanding officers. Just like her department was doing outside.

A lone tear rolled down Dana’s cheek as the familiar voice boomed over the com. The smile widened, it was probably not a good time, the ship was amidst a ferocious battle and no doubt Jen had her hands full, but if she put it off any longer.

=/\= I’m sorry to disturb you, but… =/\= she paused, taking in a deeper than average breath =/\= But I just saved everyone’s ass, and I needed to hear your voice. =/\=

Jenn smiled. =/\= That's good to hear, Dana. It sounds like you need a rest now.=/\=

=/\= Plenty of time to rest, when you're dead. =/\= Dana said, giving a gentle laugh. =/\= I had to make sure you were all safe, my recent actions...*coughing and catching her breath* the recent actions that got me demoted, a lot of people...the Captain, The XO, hell half the crew lost faith in me. But, not you, I don't know what I ever did to deserve a friend like you.=/\=

There was silence for a moment, Dana's emotion, her genuine thankfulness rang out in the very words that she was speaking.

=/\= But you're all safe now, at the end of the day that's all that matters. Life is too short for regrets, but I have some. I get the impression that at times, you hold things close to your chest. You shield yourself much as I do. You know Jen I always thought it was a weakness letting people in, exposing your soul, sharing your secrets with someone, it makes you feel vulnerable. Hell, that's why I've kept Aiden away, at arm's length, denying the very fact that I like him. When something good happens, grab on girl, grab on tight with both hands and never let go. =/\=

Jenn fell quiet a moment when she heard Dana say that. Intell just past by her on a screen, that never happened before. Her hands hovering above the console she was frantically typing on a few seconds before. =/\= Dana...you know making confessions during a space battle....=/\= She bit her lip. She put her down, not realising she had opened the coms to the main floor in the SCIF. But nothing was going as she planned out in the beginning. =/\=Dana, on that note, I have asked Billy to marry me. Would you be my maid of honour?=/\=

Dana closed her eyes for a moment, picturing what Jen had just said, it was a beautiful image, her friend smiling in a short white dress, surrounded by people that cared for and loved her. Suddenly pain tore through her whole body, her eyes sprang open the image now just a fleeting memory. She began to cough, bringing up some blood, her respirations increasing as she struggled to breathe.

=/\= Dana, are you alright? Let me send you a medic or a doctor.=/\= Jenn was worried, she had no clue what was happening. But hearing her cough like that wasn't a good sign.

=/\= Oh don't worry about me, had to dash through a plasma leak, just irritating the lungs. =/\= she replied as she used all her strength to pull herself up to the console where she began frantically typing. =/\= You certainly kept that secret, but congratulations, if he says no, send him my way, I'll kick his ass for you. =/\=

Jenn chuckled. =/\= He said yes to the proposal, but I would remember that.=/\=

The pair laughed together for a moment, it took her mind off the pain, the reality sinking in, but this was a joyous moment, one that Dana wanted Jen to remember.

=/\= But seriously, if he makes you happy that's all that matters. In life we worry, we worry too much about the little things of insignificance, when we should be concentrating on living, living in the moment because life is fleeting, life is precious and sometimes it's cut short. Enjoy the time you have and make every moment count/ =/\=

Suddenly a computer tone interrupted the heartfelt moment between the two friends. "One-minute warning."

Dana hastily finished what she was typing before she fell to the floor, her strength was waning, and she could hear a piece of distant music.

Jenn didn't get what she meant with all that. She had a strange feeling Dana was saying goodbye to her. =/\=What was that? Dan?=/\=

=/\= Oh, it's just reminding me that I need to be doing something else, the ship would fall apart without me...*pausing* I'd be honoured to be your maid of honour my friend, I have and always will love you and I'll always be with you. =/\=

Jenn saw the flickering of her screen as the messages were getting in more frantically. And the conversation was still being broadcasted to her department. Beckett and Calhoun were still listening in on them. =/\= Dana, what's happening? Are you...are you? Please tell me if you need a doctor! =/\=

Dana smiled, it had all been worth it, she had no regrets, =/\= Don't go getting soppy and sentimental on me now Masters, I'll see you later, now get back to work and keep our boys safe, Wakefield out. =/\=

Jenn was now looking at the screen and even though the reality of her work was getting back to her, but she was still distracted. What was going on? She wasn't sure if she had to call someone or go get her herself.

Then her console was flickering which reminded her they were still in the middle of a battle and she had to send out codes and intel to the ships and the bridge. She quickly turned back to her work.

With that Dana rolled onto her back, struggling from breath, her brow covered in sweat, the sound of someone shouting her name and the distant sound of a hatch opening.
