Mission: Episode 10 - New Home, Same Pioneers
Location: Mess Hall
Timeline: MD002 1645 hrs

Quinn would normally eat at home with Ameri and Enya, but tonight was different, tonight they would be dinning in the mess hall. Quinn loved the meatloaf. He first heard about it from the crew, then sampled it for himself. Ever since then, he made it a point to stop by the mess hall. Quinn walked in, and noticed that Ameri and Enya were already inline. "Ladies, very generous of you to save my place in line." Quinn stated.

Ameri smiled at him. “The line was growing and I knew you were on your way.” She was hoping he would make it for dinner. Being the first officer there were times he didn’t make it.

Quinn had a big grin on his face, as he looked to Ameri and then at Enya. Then with a sarcastic and rhetoric tone he asked. "Now if the line riots, because I am cutting, you is going to protect me?"

“I will use all that training I learned and defend you while you grab the meat loaf and run,” Ameri had a wide smile on her face as she looked at Enya. “We can handle it, can’t we.”

"Run?" Quinn asked sarcastically, and with a sarcastic grin he went on. Quinn then looked to Enya, and then up at Ameri. "This ship is to small to run away, they would corner me in a moment." Quinn pointed out to her.

“You have no sense of adventure,” Ameri shook her head laughing. “I would go out that door right over there and run for our quarters and set security. They would never catch me!”

"You are only as fast, as your slowest team member Ameri." Pointed out Quinn to his wife. He would be the slowest, they would go after him first.

“You make a good point,” Ameri nodded. She took the meatloaf with mashed potatoes and gravy and chose green beans for her vegetable. Looking over at Quinn she smiled. “I hope there is some left for you.”

"Ouch." Quinn said, with a big teasing grin on his face. He got the reference she was making. And she was probably right. They both knew it.

Ameri smiled back as she waited for them to get their food and headed towards a table. “Busy day?” She asked as they sat down.

"An understatement." Quinn said, with a big warm smile. He did not really offer any further comment on the topic. He quickly looked to change the topic. "How was your day?"

“It was a typical day in Operations,” Ameri smiled. “One minute quiet and the next we’re working on something. I am lucky to have good crew working for me.”

"You were made for that position." Quinn said, with a big grin on his face. He was so happy, she got the role.

“I feel like I am finally in the job that was meant for me,” Ameri said with a smile. “What we have right now is what we dreamed of years ago.”

"So in a way, we are living the dream." Quinn pointed out to her. He liked that fact. They did not compromise who they were, to live the dream. The only compromise he made, was getting his own command. But there was still time for that.

"Definitely," Ameri nodded. "I wouldn't have it any other way. We both need to be happy with what we are doing"

"What if you hated your job?" Enya asked, then looked at her Dad. "Would you give up first officer for Mom?"

"I would, to answer your question Pumpkin. But its not that easy of an answer. Typically you do not take on the role as First Officer, unless someday, you want to command a ship of your own." Quinn pointed out to Enya.

“If I wasn’t happy,” Ameri spoke up. “Your Dad and I would work it out but I would not ask him to any more than he would me.”

Enya looked from one to the other and took a bite of her food saying nothing. Sometimes they showed their love for each other too much but in this moment she was glad to see how strong their love was.

"That she would. Enya, the key to a good relationship is communication and honestly." Quinn pointed out to his little pumpkin.

“Okay,” Enya nodded. “Can I have ice cream when we’re done? I want some butter pecan.”

“That does sound good,” Ameri said with a smile. She looked over fo Quinn. “You want some?”

"No no, not butter pecan, you should try spunomi!" Quinn suggested, in a strong dad like tone. He never understood, why she liked butter pecan.

“Butter pecan is my favorite!” Enya declared. “You should try it, Dad, it’s really good!”

Ameri smiled at them. “I prefer black cherry so don’t put me in the middle of this!”

"I will take your word for it. And Mom, you are in the middle said." Quinn said. He had tried butter pecan before, and it was not really that good. He had to mix maple ice cream in with it, to make it tollerable to eat.

Ameri grinned. “Fair enough, I will be the deciding factor.” She looked from Quinn to Enya. “Agreed?”

"No, we both loose that way." Quinn suggested, as he winked over to Enya. "I will conceed defeat to Enya. Butter Pecan it is." Quinn said, sucking up his pride a little. It was the least he could do for his little girl.

"Butter Pecan wins!" Enya grinned. She looked at her Dad and smiled. "You should have held out, I think Mom was going to choose yours."

Ameri just smiled at them. She loved how close they were. Quinn and Enya had that special connection between a father and daughter that no one could touch.

"I am capable of making my own choices." Quinn suggested to Enya, with a big grin on his face. Quinn could also sense that special connection they shared.

"I'll go get us ice cream then," Enya smiled. "Each of us our own favorite." She got up and headed over."

Ameri smiled at Quinn. "She is growing up fast. I haven't heard a complaint from her in days."

Quinn just stared at her, with a look of, why did you say that? He wanted to change the topic, before Enya responded to it. "Three Spunomi's coming up." Quinn teased, as he walked over to the replicator.

Ameri looked back at him and nodded over as he didn't see that Enya had headed over to the replicator. She watched as he left and wondered if they would come back with Spumoni or three different kinds.

Quinn laughed as Enya cut him off, to make sure she got her ice cream choice. "I was teasing." He said, with a big laugh.

Enya's eyes lit up as she laughed back. "I'm not taking any chances on it." She looked at her Dad and smiled widely as she got her ice cream. "You think we can do something after we eat tonight?"

"Dunno, do you think you can sweet talk Mom into it? Pretty sure, Mom is going to want you to do your homework." Quinn pointed out to Enya. He liked the idea, but was not sure, when she would be done with it.

Enya sighed. “You’re right, Dad! But I will get up early tomorrow and finish it, I miss us doing stuff together. When was the last time we had fun as a family!”

"Go ask Mom, don't drag me into this." Quinn suggested, with a wink in his eye. He could see what Enya was trying to do.

“She will say no,” Enya sighed dramatically. “I know I need a good education to go to Star Fleet and end up with my own command someday but I need to have fun too.”

Quinn shrugged his shoulders towards Enya. "Never hurts to ask, does it?" Quinn suggested to Enya, as a course of action. Enya needed to learn to take chances in life.

“Okay,” Enya nodded. They headed back to the table and she handed her Mom her ice cream and tried to think of a way to ask for a reprieve from homework.

"Good luck." Quinn said, as stood back and watched Enya, head over to her mother. He was very proud of her, for going over to her and asking.

“Thank you,” Ameri took the bowl and ate a spoonful of ice cream. She looked over at Enya who hadn’t taken a bite yet. “Is something wrong?”

Enya took a deep breath and decided to just say what was on her mind. “I wanted to ask you if we could do something fun tonight. I know I have homework but I promise I will get up early and get it done.” She paused. “Please!”

Ameri’s gut reaction was to say no because she strongly believed that homework and schooling were important but she paused and took into consideration the importance of family time as well. Looking from Quinn to Enya she said. “I think that is a good idea. We need some time for fun.”

Quinn smiled, he had a feeling that Ameri was going to say yes. He was proud of Enya for asking. "As soon as we get done with our ice cream, will head out and seek adventure." Quinn told her with a big grin on his face.

Enya’s smile spread across her face and she started to eat her ice cream in earnest, looking forward to the evening.

Ameri smiled as she looked at Enya, then over to Quinn. “I love when we have no plan and just see what happens.”

"Your the best, hunny." Quinn said, as he reached over to hug her, and pull her close to him. He loved the fact, that she was allowing Enya, to have a little break from working on school work. She needed the break.

“You are Mom,” Enya nodded. “But there you two go again, hugging!”

"You'll get use to it." Quinn suggested, as the scene starts to fade away.
