While en route to a First Contact mission with an enigmatic race known as the Altutians the USS Pioneer is struck without warning by a quantum filament. The ship looses power, only emergency lightening and life support works. How can the crew get their ship moving without being able to communicate with each other? No one knows who is alive or dead. With the warp core containment field failing and the slipstream quantum shielding down, will the crew be able to restore the ship before she tears herself apart.
